LOL, your expression was priceless! I saw him perform this back in the late '70s at one of his concerts. It was awesome because he is an awesome performer. I've always thought of Copacabana as Barry's most well-known song, although I could be wrong about that. Mandy is also very well known and one of my personal favorites. And yes, it is amazing to hear such a catchy song, one that makes you want to dance, about something so dark and "unsavory"? A similar song would be Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin. I don't think you've reacted to that yet, but hopefully you will. I think you'll like it, too. Thank you once again for such a real reaction!

I’ve always loved Barry, since I was young! (I’m 48 now). Back in 2009, he was doing a residency in Vegas. My husband, brother, sister in law and I were there, and I wanted so bad to see Barry, but none of them would go with me! They said they would drop me off and pick me up! I was crushed! Fast forward to 2012, Barry came to the Bay Area where I lived, so I bought tickets and my mother and I had a wonderful girls weekend and we both absolutely loved seeing him! Even at 70 something yrs old, his show was amazing! This song has always been one of my 16 yr old sons favorites! When he was 2, I would put on Karaoke music on the TV as background noise, and when this song came on he would light up, get excited and he knew ALL the words! He would sing it for anyone who would come to the house!💞💞💞💞

Your reaction and your smile is exactly what disco music is all about! It may be cheesy or even silly, but the beats/grooves are still what makes these songs so endearing. I don't know how familiar you are to a few "classic" disco artists such as the Bee Gees, KC & The Sunshine Band, Barry White, Donna Summer, etc.. (You can't go wrong with most of their hits.) A few suggestions that represent disco that are some of my favorites: "Dance Across The Floor" (1978) by Jimmy "Bo" Horne (underrated hit), "Every 1's A Winner" (1978) by Hot Chocolate (I know, "You Sexy Thing" is their probably best known song, but I think this one's better), "I Get Lifted" (1975) by George McCrae (again, I know, "Rock Your Baby"...), and easily one of the coolest disco songs (in my opinion, anyway) is "The Groove Line" (1978) by Heatwave (I know, "Boogie Nights"..., but again, I think this is their best song). Anyway, I could name others all day long, but then I would be traveling down the disco "rabbit hole"!

As usual you have the best reaction, LOL. It is deceptively perky song. You know who else sings like that is Lily Allen. She was a little flash in the pan in the mid to late 2010's (people either loved her or hated her) but she has a very light, feathery voice that sounds really upbeat until you really listen close to the words then you're like, "HUH?!" Anyway, I adore Barry Manilow. So sad he has retired for the most part. I never got to see him in concert and always wanted to.
