I looked at a dozen reactions to this song and you are one of two people who noticed what is said about the loss of a loved one. Most people cannot understand why they turn away from a girl. An absolutely brilliant song, a cheerful tune and deepest depression lyrics. Then there was a confrontation between the Stones and the Beatles, and I think that, at least in terms of lyrics, in terms of feelings, the Beatles fell far short.

I just read an article that had Elvis listed as the greatest entertainer of the 20th Century. If that's true, I can understand how, or why...

but the raging question is - - W H Y ? ? He changed the lyrics to the song and giggled at his own joke . Original words : "Do you gaze in the mirror and wish I was there ?" Performance : "Do you gaze at your BALD HEAD and wish you HAD HAIR ?"

--------------- easy to see where Country Music & Bluegrass influenced a young Elvis Presley, creating his own version of Rock, combining country with blues

When Metallica came to my town I helped set up their equipment and everything else one of my buddies on the other hand was their driver he was only supposed to take them from the hotel to the concert and back. He took them to all the hottest bars in town. When the boss figured out what was going on and he called them up and says you get that van back here right now. Kiss my ass call the cops I don't care I'm having the greatest weekend in my life yep that sounds like him. It was just funny

Michael Bolton and this song especially was huge back in the 80s and 90s... And that was back when every song that came out was on night tracks or something where it always had a video with it which made the songs more meaningful back then than what they are now... 😊❤

He probably wasn't down when he wrote this. It was just his way of using darkness and light to weave his musical and poetic art. 'The End' wasn't too far from this. He had a fascination with the mysterious, and death.

This song used early samples, from Kool Is Back by Funk Inc (the horn stabs and the heavily echoed drum sounds), but they weren't created by the band, they were preloaded on the Fairlight synth they used.

Freddie had a full 4 octave range, very rare in a singer. He held back in live performances because he didn't want to hurt his voice, but in the studio he went for it giving every ounce of his powerful voice. A funny thing happened, the sicker Freddie got the more powerful his voice became. Queen's last two official albums are The Miracle and Innuendo and on both albums you can hear this raw power in Freddie's voice that wasn't there before.
