His Barry Manilow Live 1977 album is also great! Has almost all of his hits at the time on it. I owned the 8track as a teenager ( tells you how long ago that was🤣). I played it until it broke. You can find the entire album here on youtube 😊

Hello Angela: People are rarely indifferent about Barry Manilow; they either love him or hate him. He was one of the most prolific musicians of his era though and definitely left his mark on pop music, for sure. I just noticed in the video how high he sits in relation to the piano keyboard. Never noticed that before. I enjoyed this song theme series of yours. It resulted in some interesting comments, background facts, and more than a few rediscoveries. Thank you for all the effort you put into it!👍👍❤❤

He was a real hit-maker in the 70's and 80's-- for himself and some big names like Dionne Warwick (Whitney's auntie). Listen to "Looks Like We Made it" "Copa Cabana (At The Copa") and "I Write the Songs."Also, he wrote some songs for movies ! He also wrote some jungles for famous product commercials.

Here’s an interesting fact for you. This record along with many other of Barry’s records was produced by Ron Dante. Who’s that you ask? Well he’s the one singing sugar sugar in the archies song you just listened to.

You have such wonderful reactions and you're such a wonderful person Angela. I've been watching a lot of your reactions lately and subscribed today. Barry Manilow's songs have been a guilty pleasure of mine as well. This song in particular makes me look back at my younger days and how easily and thoughtlessly I'd break up with someone for the most idiotic reasons. Granted, I was one the receiving end of these breakups as well, but I can only reflect on my own actions and I knew some really nice, sweet girls/women and never really gave them a chance. Songs like "Mandy" make me wonder what could have been and it makes me sad to know I'll never be able to find out.

Mandy began life as Brandy, a single by its co-author Scott English and Manilow turned it into something more expansive: amping up the vocal drama, layering on the orchestra, choir and crashing drums until its finale sounded like a homage to Phil Spector. Bazza's breakthrough hit - it emphatically demonstrated his path ahead lay as a balladeer supremo.

Love Barry Manilow. Some folks don't know that he started his career writing for TV commercials like: "I'm stuck on Band-Aid, cause Band-Aid's stuck on me!" and "You deserve a break today, so get up and get away, to McDonalds!" also "And like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!" Among others. He never believed his voice was good enough to break into pop music. As for this song "Mandy?" It was origionally written by someone else, and waa called "Brandy"

It was never cool in school to like Barry Manilow back then in my era and I was early primary school years, but I always liked his music, he connected and wrote some great songs that could reach out, but this song reminds me of a girl named Mandy Becker, I had a huge crush on her because she reminded me of the lead female in a movie called the Magnificent gunfighter, which my mom took me to see during school hours, my mom loved westerns, great movie btw, cowaboys hawt girls and samurai swords what could a kid want more, understand we were years behind the US so this would be mid to late 70s I’m still very low single digits maybe 6. I’ll never forget her, she sent me away, just like the song but in reverse. I asked her out on her way back to school from her lunch break she lived just up the road from our primary school and would go home every lunch time, took me weeks to work up the courage to ask her out, she was so hawt, easily the best looking girl in school, we were both pretty popular in out class’s back then too, still she sent me away. Songs always reminds me of her. Great reaction, one thing I do get from you is you have a great ear and great taste regardless of the era.

Doll, Barry I believe was rumored to be gay...thus "Mandy" likely was a guy. Barry...for years invented simple jingles for commercials. I don't know when he made it big...but big he was. Massive amount of hits...and no "flash in the pan" to be sure. This is notably beautiful. Keep up the good work. Subbed

#DayOneReacts ... Fun Facts... Barry Manilow was the Pianist for a famous singer name Bet (Bette) Midler; with her encouragement he was able to get a record deal and one of his first songs went #1 and stayed on the Charts forever; it might still be on there... LOL The song, "I write the Songs" This song was so popular that preachers called it of the Devil and would say it was a description of Satan.... I remember as a kid hearing these sermons and thinking how could they determine it was the devil? But back then in a conservative church music was a source of attack....

What is a music reaction? It is a feeling you get from deep inside that comes to the surface after hearing a song that touches your soul. When the singer can bring a tear or smile to your face, then you know the writer and singer have done their job with the song. When it makes a lasting memory in you heart and mind, than it has created the perfect reaction because it done this on different levels on your being. To me, that is a reaction to a beautiful song .when you walk away with a smile on your face. Now listen to this Barry song, one of his best. Oh by the way,Mandy was his dog not a person. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHmslXt_jMuhopY
