Barry Morse introduces "Never Wave Goodbye" Part 2

He as many English, Irish and Welch, mastered his American accent quite well. I was blown away when I tuned this introduction in and he has this British accent. I don't think they could have found anyone better to play the part of Lt. Gerard.

The British are such remarkable actors as a rule. Damian Lewis as Dick Winters in "Band Of Brothers" is another example of this phenomenon. I was stunned when I first heard him speaking as himself and realized that he was British.

Some of the best actors of all time were hard-working character actors. Lots of work and less ego. Morse was one of the greats.

With the exception of the series finale, "Never Wave Goodbye" was perhaps one of the best episodes of the series. The other memorable episode is when Kimble, for the first time since the night of the murder, sees the one-arm man on a bus heading out of Chicago. The bus moves out of the terminal before Kimble can stop it and confront the man who killed his wife.

Thanks to Barry for specifying the location, Santa Barbara. It's so atmospheric at the wharf there and serves as an integral part of the story. Watching David Janssen and Robert Duvall stitch the sails, well, they certainly had some good instruction to add a degree of realism. Susan Oliver portrays Karen so well and so lovingly; she's a wounded bird. Despite the feel of the wide open spaces of this California coastal town, it's got to feel at times claustrophobic with three adult males, Richard (Janssen), Ray (Lee Philips) and Eric (Robert Duvall), all having fallen for the same woman. And doubly so for Richard with Barry's Lt. Gerard closing in. The Los Angeles freeway (101) and street scenes are remarkably-well and excitingly captured. Barry's concern about this being a two-parter so early in the season is duly noted. Thank goodness it's a compelling story; and by no means dragged out as too often happens with two-parters, both dramas and sitcoms. Had 'Never Wave Goodbye' been subpar and/or poorly executed, the series risked losing on-the-fence and new-to-"The Fugitive" viewers which would prove injurious to its future as ABC peruses the Nielsen Ratings of its unique new show. Oh how I wish Barry specified where the cast and crew overnighted and how many days were they away from their base at Samuel Goldwyn Studios in Hollywood -- as the (producer) Quinn Martin went against pattern and utilized a "distant location" for the only other time except for the pilot, shot in far away Tucson. And perhaps note how this Londoner compares/contrasts the distant location experience in beautiful Santa Barbara from the norm in L.A. and L.A.-adjacent. Finally, hats off to Barry: he enunciates these intros clearly; viewers never have to "rewind" to understand the text.

Thaf chase in part 1 is 10 fwy, Vermont exit, bus stop, could be Western, but that's the 10 for chase, they're riding south on 101 in another scene, cheers, what a great series

I'm from Philly and went to Australia in 1999. It took me only three days to pick up the accent. I played golf one day with locals and they didn't pick up I was from the USA until the 17th hole. The hard part was losing the accent when I got back to Philly. Mel Gibson had the same problem. It took him years to lose his Australian accent as he was born in the U.S.A.

Probably the best of the Fugitive episodes. Real chemistry between them. A shame Susan Oliver wasn't part of the series finale.

If not the best, it's "solid" for the Top Ten. 6:36 - 6:46 Richard: "I never want to have to pack again." Karen (Susan Oliver) responds, before her warmly accepted, carefree, loving actions of sitting in his lap and kissing him, "I never want you to have to pack again." Kimble is totally responsive. What an amazing "pull" Susan Oliver's Karen has over these three men, i.e., Richard, Dr. Ray Brooks (Lee Philips) and Eric (Robert Duvall). The local doctor's pining for her, big time. Referencing Richard she bluntly confesses to Ray, "I just love him; that's all." What a stab in the heart to the local doctor who's just "spilled his guts" pursuing her. Oh how I hated Robert Duvall's Eric in the episode; he being responsible for the Richard and Karen not living "happily ever after." I concur with Thomas Vasiloff: Susan Oliver would have been great in the finale -- one wherein following his exiting the court he can't even wait to get to his sister's house, he makes a long distance call to Santa Barbara from the pay phone.

@@scvandy3129 I have begun watching the entire series again in sequence after so many, many years. What an experience seeing them now from my perspective as a nearly 70-year old man compared to the ten-year old kid I was when they first began airing. I had always remembered it as one of my very favorite shows, but seeing it today I am even more impressed at just how good it was and how well it holds up. I have to say that this two-parter was among the best of all the 120 episodes, and that is really saying something. I so agree that it would have been perfect if it could have been Karen reuniting with Kimble at the end of the series given how painful it was that they had to part the way they did. Oliver totally convinced me that Karen was hopelessly in love with Kimble, even though her head told her that Ray was probably the "sensible" choice. It would have been completely plausible to me that Kimble might have found ways to reconnect with her from time to time in an unpredictable and erratic fashion and that she would have held on, hoping against hope for the impossible, and maybe even trying to help him find the one-armed man in whatever way she could. It might have made one of the best series in the history of Television even a wee bit better to have Oliver show up again from time to time as Karen, her heart breaking from her desperate longing, remotely trying to help Kimble without being able to be with him. I guess I am an incurable romantic....well, that and wanting to see Susan Oliver as often as possible... What a terrific series this was!

Just watched the final ever episode and got to say the quality was still there right till the end. Hopefully one day they will be available on BLU RAY so I can enjoy them all over again in HD.
