I had a catering company in Hollywood years ago. No restaurants were open late at night then, but recording studios were in full swing after midnight. I was able to get permission from the studio owners to come with food after midnight and guurrrlll, I fed them ALL.. one night, I'm at A&M studios, which were big stuff in those days, and walked into studio A, the largest, and Barry White is sitting at the controls. I had sandwiches , salads, devilled eggs, and my signature desert, a sock it to me cake. Mr. White bought out my basket. Fed everyone in his party, and was a constant customer for the duration of his recording schedule there. Sweet man. Kind and gentle. I adorded him.

I think Barry White adopted Glodean's kids from a previous relationship, plus they have one daughter together and then he also has other kids. The Secret Garden hit in 1990 was Barry’s comeback record. I would love to hear more about the making of that record because El DeBsrge was the younger brother of Bobby DeBarge who was discovered by Barry in the group White Heat which he dropped. James Ingram was the older brother of Phillip Ingram in Bobby’s Motown group Switch. And Al B Sure! Was being promoted as the new El DeBarge, after El left Motown in 89 and Bobby and Chico were sent to prison a year before for drug trafficking. I am sure there was a lot of drama behind the making of Secret Garden!

I thought Jermaine Jackson discovered Switch.
@lesthebest3171 Жыл бұрын
@@chriscooks5437 yes jermaine discovered Switch, but they didn’t just happen to bump into Jermaine in elevators of Motown in 1977. Jermaine was good friends with Barry White in 1975 when White signed Bobby and the members of White Heat to his label. Chances are Jermaine already knew about Bobby incredible talent back in 75, long before Jermaine signed him and Greg Williams up in 77. Motown loved to spin their own stories about the groups they discovered. Remember the claim that Diana Ross discovered the Jackson 5, even though Gladys Knight and Bobby Taylor actually played a bigger role in their discovery.

If I am not mistaken, I think I either read in his autobiography or he spoke this in an interview that Michael Jackson was his godson. That's why he was very defensive about MJ.

White was born Barry Eugene Carter on September 12, 1944, in Galveston, Texas, United States. His father was Melvin A. White, and his mother was Sadie Marie Carter. His parents never married, so his mother gave him her last name, but he later took on the surname of his father. He grew up in the Watts neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles, California. He was the older of two children; his brother Darryl was 13 months younger. White grew up listening to his mother's classical music collection and first took to the piano, emulating what he heard on the records. White has often been credited with playing piano, at age 11, on Jesse Belvin's 1956 hit single, "Goodnight My Love". However, in a 1995 interview with the Boston Herald, White denied writing or arranging the song. He believed the story was an exaggeration by journalists. While White and Belvin lived in the same neighborhood, Belvin was 12 years older than White. White's voice deepened suddenly when he was 14. He recalled: "[As a child], I had a normal squeaky kid voice. Then as a teenager, that completely changed. My mother cried because she knew her baby boy had become a man." White was jailed for four months at the age of 16 for stealing $30,000 worth of Cadillac tires. While in jail, he listened to Elvis Presley singing "It's Now or Never" on the radio, an experience he later credited with changing the course of his life.

According to Barry's Wikipedia page, there was a DNA test and Catherine's child, according to that, was not fathered by Barry, so she lost her court case to get some of his money. A mess, indeed. Very interesting and entertaining, Ashley. Thanks for the effort that you put into your videos, which I always enjoy.
