You are so right about how much a horse can learn in one chunk. It took me a long time to figure out that horses need time to process information. We've got people over on my side of the pond who want the horse to go from having NO idea how to do something to perfection in one lesson...."no matter how long it takes." Horses can handle short lessons on a number of things.....for foals for instance, a ten minute lesson on wearing a halter, followed by a ten minute lesson on lifting their feet on command--followed by some TIME to process the info, better than what I was told to do when I first got to Texas--"Keep at it until they do it perfectly!"

Thanks for posting! They are so cute. They seem to like their body touching each other as they walk. They seem to be very alert to their surroundings with their ears forward so much.

Sarah looks a little smaller than Ricky, his body seems quite round compared to hers. Great lesson to people to notice the natural pace of a horse or donkey and how one would have to work harder to keep up.

Wow! Such narrow roads! Kinda scary. Very nice donkeys!

I enjoyed that - nice to see you let them get round the road markings without a fight - so many times I see people INSISTING they MUST pick a fight and win it, when if they used their brains they'd realise the chances of winning are low, the chances of making that issue a HUGE deal in the ponies mind is massive - after all, if a thing is scary, then having the driver/handler shout/hit and force them to handle it is only going to make it a bigger deal!

❤this is a amazing video. Very cute Donkeys 🐴,you have. In England, do you need license to any donkey cart, if you need to drive it on the roads?

You don't need a license for any equine driving on the road in the UK, no!

@@leoerikson26Pedestrians, cyclists, horseriders, horsedrawn vehicles - can all use the normal roads in Britain AS OF RIGHT. It is the drivers/riders of motor vehicles who need to have licences, permissions and tests in order to use the roads.

It's -27c here in Ottawa, Canada today. With the wind chill factored in it's -40c. Short days are bad enough, but geeze, I'm thinking I've had enough of winter! Can I come to your place for a bit? I'd work for board and then some for free just to get out of this bloody deep freeze lol!

Have you noticed much of a difference in personality between donkeys and horses? Was wondering if you needed to adjust your training style any. There’s a donkey ridden at our yard and he has a tendency to stand still and lock legs when he’s unsure of something, whereas a horse might spook or move away. Seems like he just needs extra time to think and work things out.

@@barryhook2 sorry for the late reply ! , i was thinking of getting one who's around 13.1hh/13.3hh gelding. trying to convince my dad to allow me to have one he says i can but its just our time ... i was wondering if for future preferences that i may send him to you ( im picking between one that drives regularly*Boris 13.1hh* / and one that has done nothing *Marty 13.3hh* ) - :) . i have supported your channel for a long time so id trust he'd be safe in your hands :). also is there a payment ? and transport , and what if i dont have my own equipment and want to learn to drive ?

Might be a silly question but can you not shoe donkeys? Just wondering as I can't hear if they have shoes on but I thought they would need them for driving??
@barryhook2

You can shoe donkeys, and indeed if these donkeys had been with us for longer, due to the miles they would be doing on the road they would need shoes. Many people think they don't need shoeing as they have "hard feet" and so keep them barefoot, but as concrete is naturally harder than hoof, and a rough surface, couple that with the weight of the carriage affecting their balance and it will wear the hooves down faster than they can grow. Obviously as were are a training yard we do more miles out on the roads than most "pleasure" drivers, but we could not go very far with these donkeys as their owner didn't want them shod (they were only with us for a short time anyway to be put as a pair). We did have concerns about these donkeys' hooves as they were slightly misshapen, so we advised getting a good farrier to trim them properly even if they weren't going to be shod.
