Apologies again for the late upload again - hectic week with horses on the cusp of graduating, owner visits, cart fittings and 'going home' organising!
Little May came to us having being previously broken to drive elsewhere. Despite being generally good, her owner thought there may have been a few things missing with her training and that May lacked her own confidence, particularly with certain aspects.
Did we agree? And did she 'make the grade' by the time she finished her training with us? Watch and find out as May takes on town!

You can actually see your voice stroking over her body as she relaxes and enjoys that comfort and reassurance of your dulcet tones in er ear. What a little darlin. And the slo mo softness of her silky creamy mane as she moves rhythmically, and her shoes clip cloppin in a happy melody playin confidently in her head… such a joy to watch. She’s pure poetry in motion, and yr golden tones drizzlin over er and all of us, fair puts me at ease and I’m ……. Noddin off…. Zzzzzzzzz chillaxed

My heart was in my throat when I saw all the automobiles crowding her as they passed but then it became obvious that she was comfortable and confident . Thank you for making this video ❤!

In my opinion, rushing, skipping steps, is very common, and the horse is blamed, then after a series of owners is sent to the auction sales where they are picked up by meat buyers.

Absolutely - we too see it a lot in horses with prior training.

No matter what the horses' job is going to be in life!! You can never train with fear, there will always be something that they fear more! You have to allow them their fear response, however, so long as that fear isn't of you, the trainer.

the vehicle drivers seem so much more polite than they are here in NY of USA. do you ever get aholes who zoom by blowing their horn? I like to use the little strap slide with the nub to block the rein from sliding down the flank, because I also believe in not having tension on the rein.

If only all of the bad owners could be trained, then there would be no need to send the horses away to be trained.

I don't think recognising that things aren't right and seeking help is the mark of a "bad" owner.

I noticed you don't generally use a whip. This seems contrary to everything I've read (beginner here) or been told by my trainer. I understand the use of a whip and the need to have one handy but I find it cumbersome to carry. I'd be interested to know your thoughts.

I would like to know this too . I've noticed that he jerks at the reins maybe this is instead of a whip
@barryhook2
@barryhook2 4 ай бұрын
We prefer to use a whip with the lash cut off and a sponge ball taped to the end if we need to touch a horse with anything other than the reins. It's not standard, no - but it's how we do things around here at HDP!
@AndreaDingbatt
@AndreaDingbatt 4 ай бұрын
@@pixie706 He's not jerking the horses mouth, just using the reins on the horses quarters to get the horses attention. ~ whips often are used to cause pain... Even though they are not supposed to be used for that,,, (They're supposed to be an aide to help guide the horse.) Unfortunately people are Punishing the horse with the whip,,, rather than Disciplining them!! The difference between Discipline and Punishment is the latter is a human losing their temper and lashing out!! This is always counterproductive, for both the horse and the human!! Sadly, this is where so many problems start,,,, and the horse gets a bad name!! Then it is often considered as Difficult or Dangerous!! ~We must remember that the horse is simply protecting itself from the pain it expects! Barry does a great job of showing us things from the horses point of view!! Best Wishes and Kindest Regards, Andréa and Jasper. ..XxX...
