Richie‘s last observation is spot on. With a lot of these younger technical players it’s guitar gymnastics, but it’s nothing anyone’s gonna be listening to 10 years from now.

Been a huge fan of Kotzens since around four years ago. I heard the album Hot Streak from The Whinery Dogs, loved it, and then delved into Kotzens solo work. Great singer and guitarist, and really soulful. Always gives a great interview as well.

Awesome to see Ritchie on the channel. His last comment was spot on. VH was not only a technical wizard but he could write great songs.

I love kotzen, but after listening to him for about 30 years, it still cracks me up that in my motherlanguage his name translates to "puking" ;)

I’ve been playing guitar since I was 12 all the way back in 1988. Still obsessed with the instrument and love writing, recording and playing live. I gravitated, particularly in my early years, to many of the Shrapnel guys, with Yngwie & Paul Gilbert being among my biggest influences…along with Hendrix and SRV. But his last point really drives the point home: at 48 years old now, I can’t get into these modern era technical players. I won’t mention names, but after listening to a song or 2, it’s technical for the sake of being technical but there is very little musicality going on. I guess my tastes have changed as well, but I always preferred melody. While I still keep up my shred chops, much of that was developed in my formative years. Now it’s just maintenance. Songwriting is far more important now, and I don’t even listen much to shred players outside of the early Yngwie & Racer X stuff, I’ve been on a Eagles kick lately when I’m in the car lol

It's not difficult to relate to what he says near the end about how guitar players are too concerned with playing all the notes on the fingerboard and not with making great music. He mentions Steve lukather, and the first thing that comes to mind isn't only what a killer player Luke is; only he could have written the ballad I" Won't Hold You Back" and supplied that perfect guitar solo that doesn't include tons of shredding but has exactly the right emotional touch for a song of that nature. This is the kind of thing that I'm always trying to do with my own music, look for instances to showcase how good a guitar player I am but moreover respect the music. I might not be able to live up to the artists who have motivated me as a musician, but I am proud of myself that I'm at least compelled to try.

Kotzen never apologized to the Polish family of four he insulted with vulgar profanities last year at Winery Dogs Warsaw gig. Family with two little daughters. He better not come to Warsaw ever again. Not only he bullied them with obscene gestures and dirty language, he got them thrown out. We don't care if he was under alcohol and drugs or whatever. Everybody attending was greatly disappointed and we do not wish to see him again!
@jimmycampbell784 ай бұрын
The incident you are talking about is here on KZbin, some guy in the audience was screaming that Kotzen's vocals were too low during the show. So Kotzen shouted back "I'm not in charge of the sound" and flipped the guy the bird. It's all in the footage, people don't randomly do stuff like that and all this about families and children you're making up, it's self pitying nonsense. You might even be that guy who was heckling and so you've got a problem with Kotzen. Maybe you were under the influence of alcohol. Don't scream at a performer and heckle them during a performance then- what do you expect to get back?
@luisbovleck51734 ай бұрын
@@jimmycampbell78 Not the guy, I don't care about some guy. Who I'm talking about exactly it was a family of four, parents and daughters, Kotzen got everybody thrown out and threw a drunk tantrum. He insulted the mother in front of her two little daughters. He better not ever come back to Warsaw. Some people here are mad with him, so it's a fair warning. He'll get booed off and get garbage thrown at him is what he rightfully deserves for his behavior that last time. And he better apologize for what he did.

@@jimmycampbell78 yes, the woman, the mother, told him that she can't hear him, she was upset she couldn't hear anything, she wasn't heckling him, that is a lie. And his vulgar and profane reaction to that mother for just telling him she can't hear him sing does not warrant or whitewash his shameful behavior at any point. Period. There is no second opinion on this. He better apologize or never come back. This is not resolved unless he admits his wrong and apologizes. Or better never come back. We don't need his drunk tantrums again.
