I have my 690 setup up almost identically but with Mosko luggage. Recently added the Rade Garage auxiliary tank and front fairing. Both are a fraction of the cost of the more Dakar inspired side tank options. The airbox is replaced with a K&N filter and that frees up enough space for a 1.6 gal tank under the seat. The fairing works better than the KTM tall screen. The LED lights are outstanding. Plus it moves the gauges and GPS up higher where they are easier to see. Both move some weight to the front which helps. The last thing I'm trying to sort out is tires. I honestly ride 60/40 on the street which kills the knobbies. Want something that is not as sketchy on the highway but still can tackle the dirt. Tried the Dunlop 606/908 combo. Great in the dirt, lasted longer than stock, speed wobble at 65 on pavement. Think I'm going to try Mitas next. Post up another video if you try different tires.

Sounds like a sweet setup. I was looking a Mosko as well.. which set did you get and do you have side racks or do you attach them to the naked bike. I'm due for another set of tires as well but my mix is the opposite 40/60 but I still don't like knobbies on the street.

Barry Shaffer I have the Rally Raid rack and Mosko Backcountry 25L panniers & 30L duffle. To be honest the standard racks would work a little better for mounting the Mosko panniers. I have it attached with only 3 points instead of 4 due to the shape of the angled rack. The 80L Reckless system would probably fit better but I am not real crazy about mounting just with straps. Construction of the Mosko is surprisingly much more robust than the bags I have from Giant Loop, Wolfman, and Kriega. My main gripe is the outer pockets are not as useable as I'd like them to be. As you pack the main compartment it expands into the space of the outer pocket.

Nice. I sold my Altrider bags and thinking of going Mosko - good to hear your comments on the robust construction. Thinking 30L duffle up top and wolfman e12s on the sides just above my spare fuel...

Nice Video. I turned my 690 into more of a street bike. The difference between yours and mine. I have TKC-80's because the Heid's square off. I added Model # 1400 Pelican Cases, in gray, one one each side. I put my one gallon RotoPax tank on the luggage rack. I drape my large water-proof bag over the RotoPax tank and onto my Pelicans. When I go into a motel, I just take the big bag. Also, I have raised rubber mounted stock bars but no steering dampener. Good luck!

Great review! What are your thoughts about the fuel system that replaced the front fairings? Thanks
@BarryShaffer8 жыл бұрын
Been debating those tanks for a while now - the price stops me from trying them out. Right now I'm content carrying extra fuel when I head out on longer trips. I may reconsider should I start venturing further from civilization more often - or I meet someone on the trail with the same setup and check it out / ride it in person...
@robwilkinson84978 жыл бұрын
Some of the extras are very expensive. I have just bought one of these bikes. I intend to carry a rucksack with extra fuel cans inside it plus other stuff. I used to do this years ago with XT600's etc and never had a problem...the handy bit was being able to stash the pack away before exploring a hill top...not to mention keeping the bike as light as possible in case of getting stuck in a bog
@stopper900048 жыл бұрын
Buy a Sweet Cheeks and stick two 1.25 liter bottles of fuel in it on either side of your seat... stick an Airhawk seat pad on top and you have a long distance cruiser seat + a gallon extra of gas for $80.

@@BarryShaffer Do you think the tank bolt are something essential?
@BarryShaffer5 жыл бұрын
@@MrSchasta The upper bolt is purely a confidence / reliability item that is 'said' to be a weak point in extreme use I think it is optional if you tend to be more street oriented. The bottom bolt I would classify as a MUST! Unless it has changed since 2015, the bottom attachment point for the tank is a metal tube that is threaded on both ends and pressed into the plastic tank, if one of the bolts gets a little corroded and seize (and they WILL) the tube will end up spinning in the tank and you'll probably be forced to remove it by cutting the head off the bolt with a dremel and a cutoff wheel. The fix is cheap - just one long bolt and a lock nut. Do this while the bike is new and the existing bolts are easy to remove and you'll never have a problem.

Would you happen to have a part number for the clutch lever you used? Is it a straight swap with the stock lever? Thanks.

Sure, it's KTM 50302031300. I believe it's the standard clutch lever off the '09-13 sx/f dirtbikes.

Barry, I've gotten my 690 R setup with the PreRun tail rack ( no extension) and just picked up the Wolfman E-12s. My concern is the heat shields... It looks to me like the stock pipe has a pair of raised tubing on it, then slides under the heat shields. I'd like to not put on a side rack system (minimalist) but I'm thinking my new side bag will get melted down... Your thoughts?Thanks
@BarryShaffer7 жыл бұрын
Mike Gruel My Son ran Wolfman E12's on his ktm 350exc for our Utah trip. We used the wollfman heat shield and the bags laid right on top of it. After the 10 day ride there was no noticeable melting - I think as long as you keep the bag away from the actual exhaust gases you should be fine (his turn signal did melt from this). One trick that worked nicely with the e12s is he used blue painters tape on his plastics to prevent the bags from rubbing his graphics off. My bags wore through the paint on my racks during the trip while his plastics look good as new when he peeled the tape off....
@mikegruel26567 жыл бұрын
Very good, thanks for the quick response and the painter's tape trick! This is my 690's first major road trip coming up after I get it serviced next week and I can't wait!!! What a great bike! Columbia River Basin here we come... I've got the 2017 version and all it has seen is Mount Rainier so far on it's break in period. Time to hunt down that heat shield now! Ride safe!!!

hmm, seems like the 690 enduro r get's delivered with different stock tyres in each country, i got mine with stock Metzler Enduro 3 tyres. I think yours look pretty cool, the metzler are between cross and street tyres.

and the shock adjuster is ? any www adres
@BarryShaffer8 жыл бұрын
It's a discontinued KTM part number 62004912000 and it's not made for the 690 so you need to modify it to work (easy). I got mine off EBAY from an Italian seller. Just remember the 2015 690 has a 54mm shock body KTM will have a cross reference for the part number above but DON'T buy it, it's too big (56mm) I paid $$ to learn that lesson.
