You can get air bubbles in the lines as well and then gas wont move at all to the back.
@alexhuber32995 жыл бұрын
If the gas in your new Rally Raid Tanks is not draining through to the rear tank, try blowing into the fuel vent caps, that should do it . Thats what happened to me after I installed my Rally Raid tanks, I thought i made a mistake somewhere when I installed them but it ended up being air in the line.

Z Shark, great vid explaining your Evo 2 Tank mods. I too own a '15 690R to which I've added the same tanks and a bunch of other farkles to make it more of a quick pack mule for longer off the beaten path back country Rockies trips where I'll have to live off what I can carry on the bike and get as much milage range as possible. My problem with the Evo 2 tanks is that no matter what, they won't drain below about half full on each side, at which time the bike starves out on fuel. I've tried the telephone/email suggestions from other similar rig owners; as well as Rally Raid itself, but so far, no joy and I'm getting way too frustrated for owning a bike that I otherwise love. None of the KTM dealers around here know what Rally Raid is, much less how too rig their gear. Local dirt riders pretty much stick to single tracking and mudding the light 250 and under bikes, and the ADV riders pilot GS's and big KTMs, 99% on pavement. Both very different animals from my bike. You mention "John", who did your tank setup and appeared in your vid. Unfortunately, where I live, coastal Texas, 690s are pretty rare, so I can't seem to find a 690 owner nearby for an actual look-see and advice that actually will fix the problem. I'm getting a bit desperate and need a real 690 guru like your John to troubleshoot my rig and figure out how to get the tanks flowing like they should. Would you be so kind as to post his contact info so I can either get the bike to him to set it right, or at least get his advice over the phone. Thanks. Also John, but in SE Texas.

Hello John... Your Rally Raid tanks should empty to where the screw is to release the fuel to main tank. Is thats whats happening to yours?? There will be some fuel in the evo tanks that wont get used. But in a stranded position. You could remove the evo tanks completely and empty into main tank.. but don't think you'll get that many miles on that little fuel.

Great guy! What shop is John with?

He pretty much just works on friends bikes now.. He is known for his great suspension work.

To pull the fuel pump you just rotate the tank upwards from the back. You don't have to drop the swing arm.

Great info.. thanks for sharing your knowledge on the 690.

Exactly right, don’t have to remove the sinngarm

Nice. Looking forward to how this works on the road. One query for John, from an engine heat dissipation perspective, will these extra fuel tanks cause and issue. I am specifically worried as the fuel pipe is running close to the engine

This bike is ridden primarily in the heat of Las Vegas..And I've never had a problem with fuel lines.. The tanks do come with some heat shield on them as well... cheers

Gosh maybe they should just have made them so you can just detach them and dump them in yourself quickly. Screw all the lines maybe. Keep it simple. Would that work?
@ZSharkPH2 жыл бұрын
Im sure you could certainly do that.. but i would much rather open and close a valve. Never had a problem with the lines.

In my experience it is better to have all tanks open at the same time and then they will all empty at the same rate otherwise the fuel pump can fail as this guy mentions as it relies on fuel to keep it cool. Also carry spare o rings fromRally Raid as our British o rings harden up using US fuel with Ethanol in it and then leak. You will find it extremely difficult to find the same metric size o rings which are fuel rated in the USA. I know because I had the exact problem on my British 690 doing the TAT.
@ZSharkPH6 жыл бұрын
It may have worked for you.. But i would advise not to have all three tanks open at once when full. It will force fuel out the overflow hoses. Resulting in losing fuel. Thats what happened to me. Nice work doing the TAT.. i'm going to do it next year.

Me too. I normally have all fuel taps open. I fill up the tanks in any order that comes to mind; mostly the rear first. The tanks will level out eventually, but since they are connected through narrow fuel lines and a fuel pump that doe take a few minutes. Try it your self by filling up only one side tank while both fuel taps are open.
@xanten693 жыл бұрын
Btw. running on all tanks simultaneously (all fuel taps open) also will give you more reserve fuel: about 3.5 ltr instead of 2 (70km instead of 40). Which I prefer.
