Former (amateur) dancer here. Of course, do I even have to say it? He was amazing. That being said… Every time I watch a video of him jumping down into the splits (often off raised surfaces), in heels, and sliding back up, I’m reminded of why he was on so much pain medication for his hips, and often walking with a cane in later years.

yeah - - That's why it's hard for me to watch the (amazing) Kiss video. I've seen it so many times that on one of his splits, I'm almost positive he didn't Land properly. And it looks quite painful.

I am so thankful and proud of the fact that I logged in a total of 48 Prince concerts from the 80's until his passing and would have logged in 50 if his Piano and a Microphone tour had made it to L.A. Videos and Albums do no justice to being there live seeing Prince and the energy that was always in any venue I saw him perform in. The bigger concerts were great, but the smaller intimate spots were always best especially when he would jam songs not in his catalogue.

Hey folks!! You do realize that you've just touched the tip of the Prince iceberg. You can't beat the energy this man brings during his live performances. This was IMO his best backing band The New Power Generation. The woman you mentioned is Rosie Gaines. She was a powerhouse vocalist. If you want a poetic and endearing side of him and this band, check out the live performance of his song Nothing Compares 2 U. That was a song he had written for his side music project called The Family, then Sinead covered it. Trust me his live version of it in 1992 at his club called Glam Slam is where he just had to show them off just before the tour for his album Diamonds and Pearls.

Huge Prince fan here, but this song holds a special place in my heart: in 1993 I was a freshman at a small liberal arts college in central Arkansas, Hendrix, where there is a long traditional event at the beginning of the school year called Shirttails, where the freshmen from the different men’s and women’s residence houses (there is no Greek system at Hendrix) compete in a group song/dance competition, wearing men’s white button-downs and boxers. It’s a great way to get yourself out there and into the social scene, no matter how shy you may be, or how badly you dance/sing. I’ve watched videos of it in recent years (here on KZbin, of course), all these future doctors, teachers, lawyers, ministers, etc totally letting loose and letting their freak flag fly…I love watching this new generation enjoy a tradition that got its start in the 1930’s, but it makes me glad I only have film photos as evidence of everything that went down back then! 😂 But anyway…one of the three songs we performed to was Baby I’m A Star. Great song, from a great time in my life. Thanks for reacting to it. ❤ from Benton, Arkansas

The most significant or most known Rapping moment for Prince was the 1991 mtv awards of Gett Off. The purple rain video you watched was the a direct cut from the film. If you watch the 1985 American music awards performance of Purple Rain-you will see a lively performance as this was. If you love the dance Prince and upbeat lively performance I would recommend the Arsenio Hall 1991 Prince let’s go crazy/ Kiss performance. It is just a little of let’s go crazy before it goes into kiss. Same backing band and dancers too.

Phil and Samantha- You are doing a terrific job with your reactions. I would love for you to react to the song “Pieces of Dreams “ by Johnny Mathis. The Live version from the Tonight show.He was Barbra Streisand’s favorite singer when she was younger. She has said of him:”Thereare good singers; there are a small handful of truly great singers; and then there is Johnny Mathis”. He is the third best- selling recording artist of the past century behind Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley .This is a phenomenal performance by Hohnny. A Must See !! I am sure you will enjoy it. He received two standing ovations that night. Please react to it. You will be so thrilled you did .This performance. Is simply awesome and spectacular !!

@@jado4prez now you’re comparing Prince at 57 doing a piano and microphone show with a 30 year old Michael Jackson lip sinking his socks off you seem really silly. Prince did a whole tour in 2011 selling out arenas (you didn’t wanna mention that) he also did shows in 2014 in Paris. STANDING PLAYING THE GUITAR AND DANCING. He did piano and microphone where he sat down because he could play instruments unlike your favourite Paedo MJ
