Love it! Another mind-blowing one is "Because" with John Lennon on lead vocals. Yoko had challenged John to try to play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata backwards, since he was obsessed with playing it all the time there for a while. He took her up on that challenge, and "Because" was the beautiful, trippy, and haunting result.

I will tell you what made the Beatles the best, even today. They never stuck to one formula... most artists find a hot with heavy metal, Rock, Pop or whatever and build around it for most of their time at the top. The Beatles did everything and did it well, no one came close and no one ever will. If you have not listened to the Abbey Rd Beatles Medley on side 2, it's a must, but must be listened how it was intended
@hungfao14 күн бұрын
They never stuck to one formula - true. But early in their career they weren't given much slack. Once they were proven hit-makers, they were given some freedom. Eventually they were essentially their own boss. This, plus the fact that they showed that they could change it up and do it so well, allowed them to have great freedom. Over the too many decades that I've been around, I've seen other groups try to evolve but fail. Not everyone was a versatile as these guys or had the talent int the group to do so.

And about 10 years too soon imo. They were just starting to scratch the surface. Too much business and personal change coming quite young was too much in the end. I’ve always wondered as have most Beatles fans that have grown up with them if John hadn’t been killed if they would have made any more product after having matured more given they were now late 30s.
@jp381313 күн бұрын
@@brianherrington7226 Their solo careers are clear indications. Each were very successful during the 70s, but their output was nowhere near as revered as their works in the previous decade even when John & Paul weren't writing together as much in the studio years. John said of his lyrics that they don't mean anything, he just kept plugging away until he found a string of words that fit each line of the music. This song is an example of that.

Ringo Starr did a video on making this song. All the drummers who try to do it, do it wrong. Ringo was left-handed playing right-handed on a right -handed kit. The Beatles were the best rock band in history. Period. End of discussion. It is impossible to overestimate how popular they were in less you were around at the time when they hit the scene. or how innovative their music was as well., especially in the studio. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is generally considered the first concept album as an example. They are listed as the number one group on virtually every critic's list.

About the lyrics: I think people had been trying to deep dive so far into 'hidden meanings' of Beatles songs (that's how the 'Paul is dead' thing started) that Lennon wrote this one specifically at them and said 'Have fun figuring this one out.'

It's generally thought it was about the band members. Ringo then George then John then Paul. A bit cryptic like most of John's lyrics but you can kind of decode at least one reference in each verse. John was fond of ambiguity and often considered lyrics secondary to the music. Imagine is more heartfelt though.

Fun fact, after the Beatles broke up and all went their own way, George Harrison helped Ringo write some of the songs that were recorded on his first album, even played guitar on them as well! The real "fun fact" is that George took no credit for the songs and was not even listed as one of the musicians on the album because he didn't want his participation to overshadow Ringos' maiden solo effort. What a great friend he was!
