If you are enclosed by a metal cage like a car, the electric current will take the path of least resistance 100% of the time. So the voltage will travel around you if are in a car. Being in a convertible you are not completely surrounded by an electric cage so it’s infinitely more likely you’ll receive voltage from a strike on the car.
