But they still need to clean it up and make it safe again. I'm a big BART fan, but I don't like what the current BART boars is doing to the system! BART used to be basically luxury public transit, incredibly clean, fast, and safe. Now BART is suffering the same fate all the other US rapid transit systems are suffering. The system is completely unprotected and left to rot. They've slowed it down so that it doesn't compete with cars as well. They've stopped cleaning it. And they've stopped patrolling the system to keep it safe for people to use. This won't end well for BART. This is the standard strategy to get a public transit system defunded in America. First they make it as terrible to use as possible so that only the people who are trapped with no other alternatives still use it. Then, after the majority of people stop using the system, especially the rich and the middle class who have most of the political power. Then the opponents can safely kill the system or "right-size" it out of existence!

@@tankman_tv9332 Yeah, seems to be a bit better now that they have more cops in the system. But it's still not nearly enough. Nothing will replace having security staff, fare inspectors, and cops on the trains and in the stations at all times. This whole idea of not having security staff visible in public places but also not turning those public places into Zombieland are an idiotic fad that needs to die off. You can't just abandon public places to their own devices and assume that the criminals and crazies won't target people there. This is not how reality works! I hope the BART board and our city governments realize this soon.
