One complete C car to be preserved, but rolling is a different endeavor, for a later day

No, but Montgomery was for a little bit. Embarcadero station was just an empty shell and there was a shuttle service from 1973 to 1974 before opening the Transbay Tube for revenue service. Also there were Montgomery bound commute trains for the years before COVID. Concord or Pleasant Hill to Montgomery and back
