BART’s escalators are giant, complicated machines. Uneven wear from the tens of thousands of people who ride them every day sometimes breaks and cause outages-but BART has a team of experts on hand to keep these “meat grinders” in working order. If you like ‘How's It’s Made,’ you’ll love this video. Read even more about what it takes to fix these machines.

Yikes, I wouldn't be doing a tv interview from the pit of a running escalator.

BART needs to keep educated riders about what they can't take on the escalators. I have seen too many people take things on Bart escalators that don't belong on escalators. Things suck as baby strollers and bikes.

There’s a bike path in a tunnel that goes under a river in the Netherlands. They literally have a regular escalator for people to take their bikes on. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZKvco2pqNp3aNE There’s a grocery store in my city that literally has an escalator designed for taking the shopping cart on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/noe5hWiOi6iUf9E

OK, if they are woking that many hours why the heck does the one on the east end of the Embarcadero Station next to the Hyatt Regency Hotel go out and stay out of operation for more than one day at a time?????

It's funny how BART employees don't use the service even to go to a station

Just a thought. BART carries almost half a million people every day. It stands to reason that their escalators would carry most of them too. Under that continuous strain, I can see why they break down so often.

You couldn't pay me to work on those. The Market Street station escalators are used by the homeless as latrines. The pit is a biohazard zone.

Man, when I lived in San Francisco, I loved the Bart. I rode it nearly every day just for fun. One day, The escalator just stopped for no reason, and now I have an idea.

Maybe this guy should be looking at not accidentally touching the moving escalator rather than being turned around talking to the reporter. 🤦‍♂️

The guy should be fired including his supervisor for being in an escalator well with rotating steps and NO step guard in place.
