These are seriously some of the best playthrough's I've ever seen. I usually don't' like let's plays, or streams. Mostly because the commentating is usually annoying or boring. But Mike does a perfect job balancing being entertaining and informative. I like that he actually explains things about the game, and goes into depth about the games mechanics, as well has his own strategies. I really hope these are doing well in views, because I want this series to continue on Cinemassacre. They are so good.

+Cinemassacre Its been a while Mike, but here is what I remember secret and tip wise for Bart vs. the Space Mutants. If you are outside the movie theater when your timer is at 400 and/or 200 a purple boy scout will come out for you to spray paint. Calling Moe is worth it to summon a guy in a purple shirt to spray paint. The whistle calls Grandpa Simpson if used at the last window of the retirement home, who will shower you with coins. Collecting coins is worth it at all cost (aside from buying stuff on stage 1 and playing the the carnival games for extra lives on stage 3 the coins in of themselves will give you extra lives for every 15 or so you collect). Collecting extra lives (I'm pretty certain) is also worth it even if your counter shows 9 (I believe the game gives you credit for lives beyond 9, the counter just doesn't show them. The counter will also stay at 9 lives if you lose a life when you are over 9 lives. If you have the key item you can quick warp between the retirement home door and the movie theater door. When you hit the E in the Kwik E Mart sign for the extra life you also unlock the sound test. The magnet item from stage 1 will guarantee a 100% win every time on the spinning wheel carnival game if you use the item before you play the game. A lot of the trash cans have items in them (coins, hats, Jebadiah heads, Krusty heads) in the mall stage. Catch is you have to jump on them multiple times. And don't stop jumping even after one item comes out (there are multiple items per can and it takes multiple jumps in between each item coming out of the trash can). One trash can so loaded that it 'll even spit out a second round of coins after a Krusty head (oddly these coins don't look like coins, they look like weird crosses and have initials on them like "JW" etc.). One of the trash cans in the mall (if you press down on it for a few seconds) will warp you to a hidden room with a bunch of hats. If you stand in place and jump up and down on the first candy bar platform in the mall multiple times it will eventually move and carry you over the lollypops. There is Jebadiah head hidden at the magic wand platform section (between the forth and fifth wand) of the mall (catch if you have to jump between the platforms when they are at their highest point to activate it). The balloons popped in the balloon pop carnival game count toward your goal. If you solve the door mini game at the carnival a bunch of balloons appear. In addition to the extra life, you can enter the giant carnival Krusty head's mouth (press up while jumping to enter) for some extra coins. The window of the final tent of the carnival stage activates a quick warp to the windows of the other tents (if you press down while standing on it). This lets you search for more balloons if you haven't met your goal yet. Once you meet your goal the other tent windows will now be able to warp you back to the end of the stage. The items in the museum glass cases work exactly like the trash cans from the mall stage. Stand in place on top of the item and jump up and down multiple times to make the item pop out (its the number of times you jump that counts, not the duration of time you stand on the case). The symbols in the Egyptian section were indeed Ankhs (the Egyptian symbol for eternal life). The platforming with the waterfall and tar pit sections of the dinosaur section are indeed tricky, but you did make them slightly harder for yourself. Around the edges of the water fall chasm and the tar pits there are invisible "background" platforms (like with the T-Rex fight) that makes the jumps not come from an awkward angle). Final tip, remembering the door codes in the final stage (while helpful) isn't 100% needed. They can easily be brute forced through in a negligible amount of wasted time (just rapidly tap the enter code button while holding up or down on the d-pad to cycle the numbers).

I rented this one and Battletoads one weekend as a kid. I never did finish the second level of this game, I got frustrated with it and rage quit. But, I stuck with Battletoads and actually bought that game the following week. It only took me 3 or 4 days to beat the Turbo Tunnel level (sorry James, lol), but it took forever for me to beat the Snake Maze level. And, it took me over a year to finally beat the game. Battletoads is probably one of my favorite Nintendo games of all time, along with Contra, TMNT, and Mario 3. This video did bring back some memories. I may try to find a cart of BVTSM and give it another shot. Great video Mike, thanks for the nostalgia.

This game was so hard. It took me so much time to finally finish it. The museum was my nightmare because of the jumps before the T-rex. I lost so many lives just on that. After a while, I was remembering the T-rex more than the real boss of the level xD The nuclear power plant was very long but if I get past the museum, I had quite a lot of lives when doing this last level so it was fine. I think the platforming is kinda okey, but why most people don´t like this game is cause of the controls. Making the jump button also the run button sucks, many played super Mario before this and where so used to hold the B button to run and A to jump. Here you make those big jumps by pressing both buttons A and B at the same time. Other than that i think it´s a good game and by far the best Simpson game for the NES, the others that followed sucked ass....

I remember wishing this for christmas as a kid. I found out that my parents had hidden the game on the top of the wardrobe, so sometimes I would sneak up and take the game from there, carefully remove it from it's box and play it on my NES! Then I would return the game back where I got it. Then on the Christmas eve I had to pretend surprised when I finally got to opening the game from it's wrappings :D I never got past the 3rd stage IIRC, but I loved to play the game nonethless. Great playthrough! Always fun to watch you and James play. One thing i noticed is the audio is quite out of sync at the end. Were you shooting with a logitech webcam by chance? I discovered a glitch with mine where the audio goes out of sync over time. A quick fix for this is if you rename the file to be .mov and install a codec for whatever video editor you're using (premiere in my case) it will be back in sync. Anyways hopefully that helps!
