Empiricism and rationalism are two properties that lie on a very same coordinate system. Can you possibly get to the truth by not getting to the reason, can you get to the root without actualization. All experiences bring you to the truth, all can be brought to being rational, thus can become as close as to true as rational can possibly get to reason.

Not being familiar particularly with Spinoza (I've not read Ethics or any other of his works, only about his ideas) I still think it is appropriate to point out that the value in his ideas may not be totally found in the "lump sum" expression of his ideas. Spinoza and other philosophers may find their greatest value in the propensity of their ideas to OPEN THE MIND.

External is something that is not internal? "Actions chosen freely are determined by external causes." According to Spinoza will and freedom do not shake hands as "freedom can be determined into action by itself alone." But action indeed precedes freedom (triggered by necessity or other) either by internal or external causes. That, what was once external constitutes an internal cause afterwards which makes the definition of external and internal rather time dependent than all else.

Witty and entertaining but probably not fair to Spinoza..
