I agree with you on both court threats. I used to work around a place that did racing engines and tuning. I saw my share of repairs/rebuilds that had customers come in and threatened a lot worse than court, less than upstanding citizens. We just redid a big block Chevrolet V8 for a nasty character and he brought it back with his friends with very serious threats. Since I had the same car/engine I was asked to take it for a test ride. The owner and I left and went to an old runway we used. The car was set up as a drag car. I stopped at one end and pulled out like I was at the drag strip. When we were still spining the tires half way thru the shift into third he told me to stop. He didn't know how to drive it. When I got back my boss asked the problem was, I said bad gas. The customer asked me if his car was faster than mine, I smiled and said, no. They see your channel and busy garage and want you to pay them to go way

I've said this before, make sure when you undertake engine work that you get the customer to SIGN a detailed agreement as to what and what not you will be held liable for. I have a two page agreement for bodywork done, and another long agreement with Oselli for engine work, both basically declining any liability other than engine machining as you have no control over how the engine if fitted & run, no control over what ancillary components are fitted and the condition of those components, and no control over how the vehicle is used etc..

Yeap I imagine you have some sorta motor trade association Thea like we do in NZ? they will have templates for various common contracts and forms that businesses can put there details in and add or subtract from to make it easy. I would imagine can also find suitable template online and can always just het lawyer to checks it's all legal if ur unsure but remember it doesn't need to be long

I cant believe they let you through tech inspection with the way you have the shoulder harness mounted. By putting the anchors up on the pedestals you have created a lever arm down to the actual mount point on the cross plate. I would have recommended a cross tube on the roll bar. And you are spot on with the need for crankcase ventilation the more the better . Dyno testing proves four stroke engine performance improves as crankcase vacuum is raised, To a point there are limits.

This happens too often to you. You can't rely on loosely goosey understandings with Clients for their builds. Your are an engine doctor and real doctors tell you what could go wrong when they operate. You should to. Written contracts with what they've given you, what the job will likely entail, what you cover and what you can't. Plus currently projected price. Not everyone is up for cost of rebuilds, and buyer's remorse sets in quickly.

How does a new fuel injected engine end up overfueling so much it chews out the bore seen as the ecu will subtract fuel in a rich condition? I get leaky injectirs but the fuel trims will indicate that, it be well over negative 10 on a fuel trim.

On the MR2 Toyota engine I hope you have fitted 8.0:1 compression ratio pistons if it is a turbo engine.. The stock compression is too high for the fuel in the UK. The cars are an import from Japan and designed to run on 101 octane fuel. As stock they are under the control of the knock sensor and down on power. With the drop in compression they come alive and are so much better.

Let MGB take you to court; he is likely to stand thousands in legal costs whereas you can even if you lose (then appeal) for some inane reason offset against profit and serve notice to future chancers. Do not finance or reimburse any of these claims and in future ensure you mark up your work and photo-document more extensively. Your terms and conditions may need to be revised accordingly as well. The plug thread issue does surprise me; you really need to be checking those more effectively; lesson learnt though. Personally I would have committed to full helicoil the whole lot.

Hi, re the MGB issue. You need to get your head around 'first contract'. If you buy frome eBay your contract is with them. If you buy using VISA, the contract is with them. Your contract re the MGB was with a garage. Engaging with the customer is a huge mistake. If the customer contacts you, you should reply, sorry sir my contract is with the garage, I suggest that you contact them. On the Golf front - your'er big enough now not to have to deal with the public. 😎
@BidlyBong Жыл бұрын
Sadly wrong. If you buy from Ebay your contract is with the seller. Ebay is an agent. Ebay may step in to deal with any problems in limited instances but that is specific to their contract with you. With a credit card or bank, they merely handle the payment. In the UK a credit card bank is jointly liable for retail items over £100.00 up to £30,000 under s. 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, 1974. It does not apply to charge cards. Its a specific bit of law to credit cards. Your supply contract is between you and the your contracting party however it's paid. Lee may have made some trouble for himself by changing invoices. He may have to explain to a judge that it was a goodwill payment . He probably didn't get that agreed in writing beforehand. Silly boy. 🙄

really seems like your at the point where you need to just start filing paperwork to take the shop and customer to court to get this settled. the shop should be responsible for their own screw up and not you or the customer. it would be no different than any other warranty. you are not liable for damage done by defective parts like the pcv or a improperly carb. you are only responsible for the machine work and parts you provided.
