Base Model M1 MacBook Air - Great 4K Editing?

My base model M1 MacBook Air does more than I thought possible in 4K. It competes with my 2019 iMac which cost more than 3 times it's price. This video is about how the new MacBook Air has changed the notion of what I can edit on the go.

I’ve been editing on iPad using LumaFusion. Now I want to learn ProRes Raw, 10Bit 4:2:2. I’m planning to use Final Cut on M1 Air. Just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Thank you 🙏 for your review.

No problem. I love LumaFusion on the iPad as well. But it lacks some of things I use in Final cut, like syncing audio. Your editing should be pretty smooth using ProRes. Are you using a Ninja V to get that?

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis unfortunately no. I know it does ProRes Raw and I had a lot of fun with that cam but I’m bad at manual focusing. I’m on the fence with buying a7s3. I already have Sony lenses so it’s a no brainer but like you said the S5 is fun. BUT this FX3 I’m drooling over.

Hi Mark! I'm planning to go for base M2 Air for editing vlog style videos with the processing complexity level similar to yours. Would you think I will be good to go with just the base model? Trying to cheap out and save a few (hundreds) bucks here.

4K 10-bit on the Sony is no trouble for the Air. I always try to get the best processor usually, but I went with the base model M1 and it doesn’t have an issue

I have the 512GB SSD and 8GB Unified Memory M2 15" MacBook Air and I edit Sony 4K24p 10-bit 4:2:2 videos shot on the Sony FX-30 in XAVC S-! (Yes file size is huge but it's easier to edit for the machine) and it flies, I don't regret going with it! Edit: I forgot to mention, I actually optimise all my footage in FCP to Apple ProRes 422 and edit off my 4TB SanDIsk Extreme Pro NVME SSD

It will be the same as the other mounts in terms of quality. My suggestion is to get it immediately when it is released because it will be the best APS-C lens available to the R-Mount by far.
