Phil and Ricardo Migliarese began their journey over 30 years ago when jiu-jitsu had not even established itself in North America.
Under the guidance of Relson Gracie and the inspiration of Helio Gracie, the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, the Migliarese brothers became two of first certified black belts in the United States.

Thats good to know. theres a guy at our academy that tries this one alot. ive never learned a formal defense. But what i usually would do is make that frame and block the crook of the outside arm then wed spin around a little bit until he realizes its not happening. Ive never thought about bringing that knee in like that. Thanks for that tip. Now I dont have to waste all sorts of energy playing the dog chasing its tail game.

Excellent instructional - I’ve caught this choke only twice from underneath side control when rolling - I recently learned the classic arm/shoulder around the head from top side control shuts it down as well, but a hip bump from bottom can create the space to pull the choke off even with the arm there - thank you 🙏 for this detailed video!!

I’m a black belt got caught with this by a purple belt today. Have not had to defend this choke in years. I put my hands on his hip and throat push up that would usually break it free but he’s really really good at this joke. I needed to stick my knee in the center. Oh well 🤷‍♂️ Hate wearing a black belt you always have to win wish there were no belts

I used to get this choke from all positions all the time when I got blue belt, but then in competition I got caught with it, when I thought I had the book on it, man it plays over in my head all the time, cos the guy who choked me has worse judo and couldn't stop me from passing, we trained a bunch after
