I remember seeing mention of either the Swallows or the Robins in several mangas I have read over the years. It's cool to finally see a Japanese baseball game in person, through Simon and Martina. Love your icon. YOLO (You Obviously Love Owls), just like me. Of course, I'm trading out the Philadelphia Phillies and the Bryn Mawr Owls (my college city and school mascots) for the Boston Red Sox and the Simmons Sharks when I start grad school next week.

That's how I felt about baseball in Korea because in Australia we don't do baseball. They also had a song for every batter and there were dancers and it was so much fun. And everybody wore plastic bags on their head...Fun.

Omg this is crazy! 2 years ago I traveled to Japan and I also went to a baseball match in the same stadium and we were supporting the Swallows! I had the little umbrella as well! I went to a Swallows vs. Giants game last year in Tokyo Dome, and it was amazing! Completely unlike baseball games in the US! It was just like going to a hockey game at home (Nashville Predators). I particularly loved how there is a chant when a guy is on third, and you are trying to get the batter to hit a run and get that guy home. It was so, so fun, and was certainly a highlight of the trip!

When the team was founded, the owner was JNR(Japan National Railways). It was named the Swallows from Tsubame, the name of a limited express train that ran between Tokyo and Osaka in the 1950s. You know skunked beer is a thing? If you expose beer to UV light the hops react and create sulfuric compounds which smell bad. That why beer is normally in brown or green bottles, Corona is sold in clear bottles so it's normally always in a box and has a wedge of lime to kill the smell if it's bad.
@eatyourkimchi7 жыл бұрын
I do indeed! :) But I heard beer being called "skunky" when it was on tap but the lines weren't clean so the beer has a gross smell and taste.

Ironically enough, I just went and saw a St. Louis Cardinals game yesterday and booooyyyyy do they ever blow up the prices. Can't bring in outside food or drinks and a bottle of water is $5.50. Beer is $9 a bottle, $9.50 for a tall pour, or $12.50 for a tall pour in a souvenir glass 😖 but it's so fun and we always get a good buzz going at nearby bars before we go in 😅

My mom and I went to a Yakult Swallows game in May! It was the most fun thing we did in Japan. The woman in front of us let us borrow her umbrella when someone scored so we could do the dances with everyone. She helped us figure out the clapping rhythms! And they had Budweiser as an option for beer (my dad works for them so it was exciting to see it available at games in Japan too!) so it was just a perfect evening. Also the food. A+
