This game was incredibly special to me. I was 12 years old visiting my dad for the weekend in his basement apartment, we just set up a new flat screen TV and baseball was back for the season so we were excited to get to watching some baseball. We ordered pizza and next thing we know the Yankees are not doing so great. 9 run deficit didn't really phase us, My dad and I. We were excited to be watching baseball again, but I had so much faith in my Yankees. I remember right before I took a bite of my pizza I looked over at my dad and I told him "Nick Swisher's going to hit a grand slam over the big monster and it's going to bring us back" and I could not believe how right I was. I miss this squad, I miss those days, and I miss my dad. But baseball is forever.

Wonderful memory, I love "Baseball is forever" and I often feel that the Yankees are my best friend, especially after losing my absolute best friend and hero my father. We always had that great connection of conversating about the Yanks. When I watch the Yankees each evening I place a photograph of my father on the chair where he sat when visiting and watching Yankee games with me. In my heart he is there watching with me. Go Yanks!

I remember this game. It was on TV on Fox at a birthday party I was at. I looked up at the game and saw that it was 9-0. I thought, ah this one's over. You win some and you lose some I guess. I checked the TV again in the top of the 9th and just wondered how in the world this was possible. They had come all the way back from one of the biggest deficits in MLB history. To this day, I regret not watching the middle of this game and keeping faith throughout. Thank you for bringing back an excellent memory.
@TRivera135 жыл бұрын
I remember it too. Because of the 9-0 lead Fox had switched to the White Sox game where I believe Philip Humber was close to finishing a Perfect Game. That happened and when Fox switched back I heard Joe Buck say something to the change of momentum. Crazy.

Speaking about missing a game. I remember back to '86 Mets vs Braves. Started watching the game with my brother. Had plans to meet some friends and ended up closing our favorite watering hole. Got home 2:30am and coming up the alley way, heard the game and wondered why my brother was watching a replay? Game ended at 3:55 am. This was the year I introduced my older brother to baseball. He was a fan till his death and when I think about him, I remember the times he would bring up my missing a great game. This game is one of my reasons never to do away with extra inning games. ps. I still hate the DH rule. RIP MIKE.

Jared Messersmith Fox actually left this game for most of the country and went to Philip Humber’s perfect game, then returned when Teixeira’s home run to make it 9-8 was leaving the yard, that’s why joe buck says “it’s 9-8 here in Boston”

@@r0n718 I began watching the Yankees around 1994 when I was only 6 years old. My father had always been a Yankees fan and he got me into them. After I watched them win in 1996, my love for them grew stronger and stronger. Many of us were blessed to have watched them win in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. And boy what a time it was to be a Yankees fan in the late 90s. The current 2022 roster could be viewed as the best put Yankees team ever and rightfully so, but I’ll go to my grave thinking the 1998 juggernaut that won 114 games was by far the best Yankees team I’ve ever seen in my 34 years of life. I sure hope we win this year cuz that 2009 World Series sure looks like forever ago. We just need to make sure we get over the hump against the stupid Astros whom I hate with the passion…. As a Yankee fan, I had bad luck at Fenway. I saw five games there, an lots of HOF players, one each with Baltimore, Seattle and Milwaukee. This was back in the early 90s. Ripken and Murray on the O's, Griffey, Martinez and Johnson for Seattle and Young and Molitor on the Brewers (an AL team then). And all three of them beat the Sox. But the two times I saw the Yankees, they lost. I was in house for Roger Clemens 2,000 strikeout. Even hating the Sox, that was cool. But I wish I had gotten to see Mattingly win at Fenway.

This was absolutely dramatic, enhanced by the Pink Floydesque theatrical music during the games most historical feat: fifteen unanswered run during the Yankees supreme surge and subjugating. The impossible comeback teaches us a useful lesson: When you are playing for your supper, life, and pride, one must pile on. Keep piling on. Take not thy foot from the gas, for there is enough time to exercise one's "gentleman's agreement" *after* the game; hence, starting the ball-in-motion of reconciliation with humanity.

i remember this game cause one of my college friends, not a friend anymore was there with his girlfriend, now wife. he was bragging all week and during the game texting all of us saying im at the sox game and your not, blah blah blah. we all had enough of him and we all joked and said lets root for the yankees and see if they can comeback and beat them and sure enough they yankees came back to win it. he didn't text anyone or talk to anyone of us for like a month until graduation.

Fox didn't air the start of the top of the seventh inning, including Swisher's grand slam, live because they switched to the end of Phil Humber's perfect game, which was airing regionally.

As a Yankee fan, there is no other highlight or game that is more of what this Yankee organization is truly about. They are truly the best that ever was or ever will be!! To all you red sux fans, I want to thank you for letting us celebrate the 100 yr anniversary of Fenway with you on this day...it was an honor to kick your butts again but it was truly extra special on this day! Than you for the honor of helping you celebrate with you on this day!!

NO ONE had more pure fun with being a Yankee than Swisher. Dude was the happiest man in sports while there, AND, he got a ring. Meanwhile, Judge turned down 30 mil a year....and he STILL can't pull s fastball. It was easier to appreciate Swisher. Judge is losing dome respect amongst Yank fans with apparent greed.

The only game worse than this was game 6 of the 86 World Series. 5-3 with two outs in the bottom of the 10th and they lost 6-5. This game with the Yankees (for a Boston fan) most have been painful.

OMG, I was at this game! Took a client from ESPN to the game using my company seats about 11 rows to the left of home plate. They would not allow me to wear my Yankee jersey but I still was close enough to get acknowledged by Derek Jeter and a few other Yankees by yelling. I remember turning to my buddy and saying, if they could at least hit a home run to make it fun to watch, then BOOM from Texiera. Then when we loaded the bases, I started laughing with him about how crazy it would be to see a grand slam....BOOM Grand Slam and here we go!! What an amazing, never see again type of game. I couldn't even speak at the end, it was glorious :)
