A year ago, I was handed the hardest year I've ever had to deal with as a Mets fan. Not only because the most expensive team in baseball collapsed hard enough to sell at the deadline, but I also ended up watching my Aunt and Uncle, who were both huge Mets fans, die from separate health issues. Not only did I have to deal with that grief, but emptying their house meant throwing out Mets memorabilia lying in storage (I saved a couple things though). Now, the Mets performed one of the greatest comebacks in MLB history, finally beat our boogeyman in Atlanta to clinch a playoff spot, have one of the most amazing games I've ever seen to do it, and now they have won at least one playoff game. Needless to say, this year has been therapeutic for me. I still miss my Aunt and Uncle, and I always will, but with this, I'll be OK. They're cheering for you on the other side as hard as I am here. Lets go Mets.

As an Arizona Diamondbacks fan, this was probably the most disappointing season in our franchise's history. Coming off of an incredible ride to the World Series last year, the highest payroll in franchise history, the most talented roster we've had since 2002, expectations of consistently being a playoff team that could contend for championships, and a young core that could last for a decade. And, we had a wild card spot literally gift-wrapped it for us and we blew it badly. We got the Torey special again, like in 2018. It might be time for him to go.
@Saritiel3 ай бұрын
Are you kidding? Hell no it's not time for Torey to go. We had the best offense in baseball and it wasn't even close. We failed to make the playoffs pretty much entirely because our pitching was bad, but our pitching was absolutely ravished by injuries. Our top 3 starters were all injured at the same time for a huge chunk of the season, then coming back and not performing to their usual standards since they had been injured for months. Zac Gallen pitched with a fractured leg for 4 months. Despite all of the above we were the hottest team in baseball for a couple of months and nearly made the playoffs, and almost certainly still would have if Moreno, CWalk, and Marte hadn't all gotten injured at the same time completely killing our momentum. Our starters were finally starting to find their rhythm. We picked up Puk in the pen who was freaking godlike. Run this season back with slightly better injury luck and we're a 100+ win team, no problem. We got damn unlucky with injuries. Only thing I can really blame Torey for is leaving Sewald in so much when everyone could tell he's cooked, but even then I get it. When Sewald was hot he was amazing, and by all reports everyone in the locker room loves him. Torey wanted to give him the chance to get his confidence and his mojo back. It didn't work out.
@M_11_m41n3 ай бұрын
@@Saritiel Torey has been with us for 8 years and he is known for his late August to September collapses. This is the exact same thing that happened in 2018, but even worse. Torey is very much loved by the players, but he is very sketchy with his baseball tactics and it's costed us a few seasons. Yes, we went through a lot of injuries. But, our replacements kept up the slack for a bit and the injured players came back not looking the same for a bit. Don't get me started on Montgomery because I thought we got rid of Madison Bumgarner and I didn't think Texas was poisonous with another one; so, thank goodness it's a one-year deal.
@jooooohn4013 ай бұрын
@@M_11_m41n hate to break it to ya but Montgomery has a player option for $22.5m next year and no one is paying him more than that coming off of this train wreck of a season. Kendrick is talking sht about how bad signing him was publicly to try and piss him off and get him to leave and not pick it up lmao. If Torrey leaves I’m fine with it. Everyone bags on Sewald with four blown saves, but he let Thompson blow SEVEN last season. And ginkel blew six. Partially on Torrey, partially bad luck our top 3 relievers crapped their pants this year, and partially on our FO adding zero relievers in the offseason when we only had 3 we could count on. Such a terrible way to end a season, our pitching self destructed.

23:40 - Gotta be the most pointless doubleheader in the history of baseball. There's NO REASON for the team that wins the first game to even ALMOST try the second game...regardless of who it is. Doesn't matter. You won?...you're in, time to rest up and skate, easy win for the other team. My D-Backs had absolutely NO chance. Not that they deserved it really, but still.

Once Ohtani was nearing 50/50, MLB started pre-authenticating all of his balls. Whenever he would come to the plate, the umpire would switch out the balls for the authenticated ones. But definitely weren't juiced though right?

@@ghost64626 Why can't the MLB just pre-authenticate every ball that is pitched? every single ball is fully accounted for anyway, right?
@doppelplusungutmensch11413 ай бұрын
@@ghost64626 I doubt they were juiced, because think about it, if you have definitely authenticated balls (is that actually proper grammar?) anyone who would catch one of them could let them be analysed scientifically, and it would be a great scandal if it turns out the balls Ohtani used were indeed juiced. MLB would be fucking stupid to do that.

As a D-Backs fan, I think it is extremely dumb that the Mets, despite what the Braves have denied them of in the past, let their arch rival win in the second game. They did not try to win at all and thus, stopped the Diamondbacks of their rightful spot in the playoffs.
@StageRight1233 ай бұрын
There was no incentive for them to be competitive in the second game. No reason to risk injury, when you're already locked into the playoffs.
@scottsbucs87023 ай бұрын
It sucks but why would the Mets risk injuries and kill their pitching staff just to deny the braves a spot? Now because they got to take an easy the second game they now have an advantage in playoffs over the braves if they ended up meeting them.
@sphealteam63 ай бұрын
why risk injuries going into the playoffs when you have your spot secured? modern front offices may not be the best at keeping players healthy but they're smart enough to know that there's 0 point in going all out for a game that only matters to teams that aren't theirs.
@paperpenn99233 ай бұрын
