2:32 As the announcer said, "That's what I figured." Andrew Wantz was making his major league debut, announced as the starter just before game time, but it was immediately clear that he was brought up and put in the game only to throw at Mariner hitters in retaliation for Mike Trout almost being hit the night before. He missed Julio Rodriguez (the pitch you see here), but hit Jesse Winker, resulting in a bench clearing brawl that led to 8 ejections. Wantz threw a total of 12 pitches, and the person he replaced as the starter, Jose Suarez, came in to pitch after the Wantz ejection. It was clear the Angels had no problem with Wantz being suspended, but did not want Suarez suspended for throwing at hitters.

A few small things went wrong, like cutting off the intensely insightful Jim Palmer before he finishes an idea 31:30 although it happens more than once. You also have a few instances of cutting off plays before they end. Tell the whole story.

e.g., (and there are a lot of them) 25:00 ... your subs are going to want to know the outcome of getting drilled like that. It just gats snipped. There is another obvious one where a ball gets away with the runner reading the play and starting to head for third... And I have no idea what happened.

4:35 This is the example of why the 3-disengagement rule is idiotic. Pitchers are only allowed to step off the rubber or throw pickoff throws twice per batter. If they try a third time, they have to succeed in getting the runner out or it is a balk and all runners move up one base. The runner, knowing this, can take as much of a lead as he wants knowing the pitcher cannot throw over to pick him off unless he knows he will get him out. Here, since the third baseman was not at the bag (and normally would not be, since fielding a ground ball is his primary job), the pitcher decided to disengage rather than throw (throwing to the baseman away from the base is also a balk).
@eauhomme3 ай бұрын
17:29 Craig Kimbrel was worried that the runner on second was tipping off the batter on the pitch by reading the catcher's signals and positioning. Since the Phillies had a 3-run lead, he wasn't worried if he scored. By balking him to third, it made it so that the runner couldn't see the signals anymore.

One deserves explanation: How is it called after the ball is "stuck" in the dome and never comes down?
@alexfox4385 ай бұрын
It depends on where exactly in the dome that it hits when getting stuck. It is such a strange set of rules that only applies to one single stadium, Tropicana.... the inner roof of the dome looks like a target, with a bullseye - there are different lighting fixtures and catwalks that run circularly along the inner roof and form different-sized "rings" around the center. If the ball hits the outermost ring, regardless of whether it falls or gets stuck, it's considered a foul ball. If the ball hits the second ring from the outside and FALLS, it's considered a fair ball, in-play... But if it gets stuck in that second ring, it's considered a foul ball. If the ball hits the third ring (or second from the middle), it's considered a Ground Rule Double, regardless of whether it falls or gets stuck. If the ball hits the fourth ring (or innermost ring), it's considered a Home Run, regardless of whether it falls or gets stuck. This set of rules, that apply in only one stadium don't forget, are the absolute worst thing in pro sports in my opinion. No other sports change the rules and fundamental understanding of the game depending on which stadium is played in... some people enjoy the Trop rules because it adds a layer of "old school" to the game - making up backyard rules with your friends when the yard is too small, or something like that. But most other sane people think it's absolutely outrageous lol

Absent venue rules like the truly bizarre one the othe respondeng gave for Tropicana, its a dead ball, two bases for each runner, including the batter/runner.

It may, in the interest of fairness, be a dead ball when it gets lodged inside park structures. In that case there is no reason to go after it and possibly damage the electronic board. Leave it for the park maintenance people.

25:27 A ball hit off the umpire while he is in front of the infielders is a dead ball. The batter gets first and is credited with a single, while runners advance only if forced. If the umpire is behind the infielders or the ball is deflected off a fielder into him, it is a live ball.

I wonder what MLB would be like if they would completely remove the regulations on bats. What I mean is that the batter could come up to bat with a boat paddle hell even a tennis racket. Could you imagine the halarty that would ensue? How about having a random roll aspect just to 1 inning for both sides, batters could end up coming up to the plate with a cricket bat, a boat paddle, tennis racket, or even a broomstick. The ball would need to change to if the bat is not something hard it would need to be a tennis ball or a rubber ball like you cut in half to play half rubber. I would bet if MLB did something like that ticket sales would skyrocket and bring back some fun to the game and I would also bet that the players would get more enjoyment out of the game as well.

An MLB quality bat is like $200, max $400 if it's a custom size, weight, or knob - which is peanuts for a team. There's not really a way to get around the fact that wood has grains which will always be a point of failure. As much as they advance it's still just a piece of wood put on a lathe.

A lot of hitters are leaning toward maple bats which is a hard but light wood which breaks more often than traditional ash. They're using maple because it's lighter meaning faster bat speed.
