Hey Chris, I know I’m late to the party on this video but just wanted you to know that as someone who is expanding his camping horizons from motorcycle camping to backpacking, I found your video super helpful! I invested in the Atmos 65 AG after taking my gear to the store and checking out what felt the best. Understanding how to fine tune the final adjustments is invaluable. THANK YOU

@Shawn Shaffer Same here Shawn - I have used pretty light gear as a default anyway so the transition isn’t a difficult one. I found that the gear I have in my side bags and top bag (minus tools and bike emergency items obviously!) fits easily into the 65L. Ride and hike safe my friend!

If you aren't planning to already, I'd be particularly interested to hear about clothing, fabrics, and layering, and tips on what sizes to aim for when buying these clothes. For example, should I be getting a size up or not when looking at outer layers. That kind of thing, I think, would be extremely helpful. Thanks, Chris, keep up the fine work.

Thank you for these instructional videos, like the cooking gear vidoe--I also took notes! I wrote down the tables regarding back packs displayed and wrote copieous notes because I do not remember stuff well. I need notes. I am collecting information so that if my sister and I have to bug out of our apartment we will be prepared to do so with the right stuff. Two years ago we had to vacate our apartment because of high heat temperatures, and it was a mess packing and taking things. I do not want a repeat. WE had to camp out at our church as it had AC then we got kicked out of the kicthen--could not use their facilities! So....I want to be self sufficient, and only need a physical place to camp out--but have our way to cook and have our packs and cooking supplies, and sleeping pads and bags and stuff. WE have a nice church--it is that they have many ministries helping many people. The pastor at the last minute felt bad about us being banned from the kitchen facilities, brought us two mini fridges for our food. WE did not need to cook thank heavens. NOW I would like to have that option open to us. WE had to stay a week there--no transportation. They had well water which is good, since I am allergic to chlorinated water. WE did okay. It was 116 degrees in our town. I would have otherwise died had we stayed in our apartment. We lost our power for 27 hours this past winter and it got down to a blustery 40 degrees in our apartment with snow and ice literally coming into our living room! So we want some supplies we can rely on to cook and literally camp in our apartment next time. Plus I am having a storm screen door put on our back door. Our management company refuses to pay for that, so I am springing for the cost. WE live in low income housing. Chris, it is hard to live on a fixed income. But I will get the items we need to be self sufficient and survive so that we can help our less fortunate neighbors when these emergencies arise. God Bless you, as you are equipping us to help others for the hard times coming.

While a hydration bladder and sleeve appears nice, they are a huge pain for any multi day hike where you are refilling and likely filtering often. Cheap one liter bottles in the wb pockets works much better. Also why a sleeping bag compartment? You only access that once a day at the end, so just stuffing it at the bottom on the main compartment is simpler and lighter. I think most folks pack and carry way too much, mostly because of fear or what if. You don't even need to go all high buck ultralight to really drop your pack weight and volume. Also, remember that many bulky items can be attached to the outside of the pack.

Based on my experience, make a list of features that are important to you, and bring it when shopping. Don't think you'll remember everything. Last time out I thought I had everything, but after making sure Nos. 2-7 were covered, I forgot to make sure the damn thing had straps on the bottom in case I wanted to strap something like a Z-pad down there. And it probably doesn't need to be said, but it's VERY important to check whether it comes with a rain cover. Like, $30-$40 important in the case of some packs (like the Atmos 65) that ask for $270 and make you buy a cover separately..
@basecampchris
@basecampchris 4 жыл бұрын
A list is a Good point....also The Atmos is a great pack but I don't get why they don't add a rain cover. Probably sell a lot more of their $270 packs! ( I do like the sleep pad straps...always something you can put there.)
