As you say you're not yet comfortable, I'd advise against cold approach at the gym for a while. It's a trickier, more advanced situation that needs confidence IMO. Some guys don't want to risk ruining the vibe there if it turns bad so rule it out all together. It can be done but I would get more practice on the streets first until you feel calibrated.

3 questions that come to my mind: - Is it a good idea to approach a girl that is in a group of friends, does it complicate things? - How do you reply when she is already in a relationship? - How do you know when to approach the girl (situation, kind of woman, body language etc.)

Here are some quick answers (9 years of cold approach experience): 1.) Yes, of course you can and should approach women in groups as they are more often than not with others, not alone. Now whether this complicates things is dependent on the girl and her friends, some are cool with it and let the magic happen, while others might sabotage your efforts through a simple "sorry, we just have to leave now" or whatnot. Either way, do not only approach women who are alone, as this makes it not always easier (she feels creeped out by being approached alone, etc.) and limits your possibilities. 2.) When a girl tells you she has a boyfriend, it means you should end the conversation. A simple: "I understand. I wish you a good day, bye" is all you need to do when she tells you that. Just accept what she said and leave her in a friendly way. Everything else is just desperate, makes the conversation awkward and unpleasant, and creates bad vibes. Girls typically use the "I have a boyfriend" line to indirectly communicate to you one of the following two things: "Look, I already have a relationship I am happy with" or "I am not interested in you but do not want to hurt your feelings". While there is a third category who has a boyfriend but is unsatisfied in the relationship and willing to end it/cheat on the person she is still in a relationship with, those types of girls typically do hold this information for themselves if they find you attractive or will only tell you that they are in a relationship with another during some deep conversations later on along with some statements on how they would be up to "experiment a bit in life". But for those cases, I would also recommend backing off as you do not know how much of a nutjob her current boyfriend is, which might result in the murder of both of you in the worst-case scenario. 3.) You do not. A girl may smile at you which could be interpreted as a sign to approach her but it could also mean that she thought about something positive and just randomly looked in your way. I have had great conversations with girls that had not looked at me before I approached them and awful conversations with girls who I thought were smiling at me before. You approach independently of such signs as these signs are often just limiting you and might be misinterpreted. So just approach whichever girl you like, only then you will truly find out whether she is actually interested in you or not. Good luck.

It's actually better to approach a woman while she's with other women. Most women try to avoid men simply because we don't feel safe. Women traveling in groups would feel much more comfortable chatting with a man. It could complicate things but never as much as seeming like a creepy predator. If she told you that she's in a relationship, you should leave her alone. She could be lying because she's not interested or she could be in love with her mate. Either way, any advances beyond that point are creepy and aggressive. How do you know when to approach her? Just don't be creepy. Otherwise, it simply doesn't matter as long as it's not creepy. Don't follow her to her car to get her number. Don't walk over to her table while she's stuffing her face with spaghetti. Take social cues. Is it a social mixer like a bar, club or party? Are other men approaching women there? You want to communicate your interest as soon as possible without seeming . . . you guessed it - creepy! Be very friendly, kind, polite but make sure you flirt. If you never flirt, you'll get friend zoned. You need a good mixture. If you ONLY flirt, you'll seem like a pervert. If you do both, you'll seem cool and confident which we love!! BONUS: Never worry about rejection. Why? Most people get rejected most of the time anyway, even women! Yes, women! If most people went and asked for what they wanted upfront most people would be rejected. Of course, men aren't rejecting women for sex but if she asked for a big engagement ring, a large wedding, shopping money, no cheating, etc. all before she had sex and it had to happen in the next 2 weeks, most men would say no. So everyone gets rejected most of the time. As soon as a man says "let's just be friends and see where it goes" that's a form of rejection.
