Baselworld 2019 Highlights: The Chronographs | WATCH CHRONICLER

In this fourth and final video of my Baselworld 2019 coverage, I would like to discuss the chronographs at the show. These ranged from a technological masterpiece from Grand Seiko to a rugged Sinn dive watch and a new chapter for Patek Philippe's chronographs.

The Patek is simply wonderful and stands head and shoulders above all , although the Bvlgari is absolutely amazing in so many ways and the price is one of them!

The Bucherer is my pick. It has everything I want, and nothing I don't. Simply a perfect chronograph.

As always, a very thorough and objective coverage of Baselworld 2019. Really enjoyed the four videos, the best baselworld highlights on youtube ! Thank you. Oh and that Carl Bucherer chronograph looks like a great value proposition. I think the Bulgari is becoming a serious competitor to the likes of AP and Piaget, and wins the prize for innovation this year.

I think maybe the general category or chronographs were the best at Baselworld 2019. As such, you've pretty much picked all the nicest ones I can recall having seen. My favorite.. hmm.. I would have to say The Carl F Bucherer Heritage BiCompax . And, I have to say the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo is pretty darn cool for such a thin chronograph.

I like the Bucherer for it’s dial design and the vibe it creates. The Tudor is still perfectly proportioned in it’s dial design, I only wish they could go smaller (40mm) and less thick, it also could use a proprietary bracelet, an integrated rubber one like the Rolex yachmaster would be outstanding on this watch to give it it’s own thing. The Bulgary is so beautifull, it’s allmost architectural in it’s design, so well executed, slim, multifaceted without looking busy, the dial, though it has a lot going on, is still very well balanced and calming. It’s out of this world. This watch is slowly becoming a classic if you ask me for it captures my attention more and more with each itteration. The Patek is a classic and is still in a league of it’s own, it is simply excellent, the design is allways flawless. I think Patek Philippe is one of those companies that has gone rarely wrong, they have very talented people working for them, so much is clear. Then the reviewer... it’s time he gets noticed by the Big Brands for putting the spotlights where it matters.... just saying. Your strong, unique visual style is an asset.

Sinn’s are always so beautifully over engineered! The quite chunky 17mm thickness of their chrono/diver seems to indicate to me that it uses an add-on modular chronograph module rather than a fully integrated chronograph movement. Is that the case? No pun intended 🙂

Sinn uses the Valjoux 7750 (or Sellita SW500 or their own 7750 modifications, like the SZ01 and SZ02) in their chronographs, and the 7750 is an integrated chronograph movement. It is rather chunky because the 7750 is like the pick up truck of the chronograph world..

I hate to say it because I don't like the aesthetic (reminds me too much of the Royal Oak, whose appearance I detest as well) but that Bulgari is amazing, at the very least from a technical standpoint.

The Patek 5172 is a clunker, unfortunately. A rare misfire. Syringe hands. Yick. Neither sports nor dress. It’s just - huh? The 5170 is so beautiful and classic. If I could find one and afford it I’d buy it.

Great video as usual, but these are some over-priced ugly watches IMHO. I like some of the angles on the GS case, but have no use for the chrono complication or the bezel. Get rid of the complication from the Bulgari and that, too, would be a nice watch. Yes, I understand the uniqueness of the movement, but I’d rather have more pleasing looks along with the wonderful quality. Oh well...c’est la vie.
