This is one of the best looking screen builds ive seen on here. What width is your border? It looks perfect compared to some of the really wide ones people use. Im about to build a 110" inch screen this week.

Thank you very much - appreciate it! I honestly don't remember the width, I thought I mentioned it in the video maybe. It's not very big, I'm thinking it was 2" wide total and I basically lined it up on the outside edge and flipped whatever remained (1") to the front of the screen which forms the border you see when looking straight on at it. Hopefully that makes sense.

Ty, struggling here for some reason... I'm going for a 154" diagonal screen. My width is 134.25" x and height 75.50". I plan to use a 2" border. That said I would add 4" inches to both the height and width measurements. Width 134.25" =138.25" and Height 75.50" = 79.50". When I put my tape to my layout its reading 160" diagonal. If I then subtract the 4" the viewable diagonal would be 156" but it's supposed to be 154". What am I not accounting for? Any guidance would be amazing... I feel like I'm going to feel silly once I figure this out...

I'm not sure exactly. Do you have to have a 2" border? If not, I would build your screen as you mentioned above, and then just adjust your border width to accommodate the correct viewable screen size you are going for. I'm not sure how you measured to get to 156", but diagonal measurements can be tricky when it comes to the math for them. It doesn't appear that your math is wrong from what I can see. Maybe try some projector screen size calculators you can find online?

looks good. A few LED hot spots here and there but otherwise it's quite impressive. I like the idea of a french cleat paired with the hinges. Don't see that too often.

what modifications would you have to do in order for this to hinge from the ceiling instead of the wall? and how heavy is it and what would you need to allow the screen to be held up on the ceiling I am thinking of a similar swinging screen, but it needs to be away from the wall (TV will be on a stand) and the projector screen swings down (TV for casual watching) I also want the screen to come out in front of some furniture and storage bins that otherwise would block the screen since I want to be able to use the TV still, this would need to be able to be latched to the ceiling when not in use

I love that idea first of all. I honestly think the piano hinges are strong enough to hold the screen, but you could always do a third on in the middle. Plus they make different lengths, so maybe just 2 longer ones would be enough. They should show the weight limit on the package. Just make sure you get them into some studs in the ceiling. Maybe span the distance between ceiling joints with a smaller 1x2 so you have plenty of area to screw the piano hinges into. You don't have to use piano hinges either, there are plenty of hinges out there to choose from. Good luck - sounds like a neat project!

Thank you! I'm pretty impressed with the 5050ub, but keep in mind I've never owned a projector before so don't have a lot to compare it with. I just know everyone kept saying how awesome the black levels are on the 5050ub - and I concur so far!

It would appear that they don't offer the acoustically transparent screen material anymore from Carl's Place. I'm not sure where else to source this material from, you'll have to do some research online I guess.

Some of the other videos I made reference the product. It is the nano acoustic material. My center channel is behind the screen but you can hear it perfectly through the screen. It's pretty crazy!

Looks great. I’m going to have to check out the site you used to get measurements. I used the calculations on the Carl’s place site. Triple checked them, built the frame, stretched the screen, hung it and had a 2” border on the left, right and top and about a 6” border on the bottom🤨. I was not happy. But it hasn’t bugged me enough to correct it and I like the frameless screen.

@@TyEichele After watching your video, I got on that website again. I did use it as well. Maybe you can tell me where I went wrong. I wanted a 122" wide screen which gives me a 68.63 in height I added 4" to the height and 4" to the width to give me 126" x 72.6. I measured it again last night and that is exactly what I have. But my borders are as stated above when I turn on the projector. Since the borders didn't turn out right, I wasn't going to put the felt on until I fixed it. It doesn't hurt anything but my pride. I don't even notice it anymore and especially with wide screen format. The walls are a shade darker than my screen so it blends in well.

@@jkraft5081 So just to make sure I understand correctly - when you say you wanted a 122" wide screen, do you mean you wanted a 122" diagonal screen? Or literally a 122" wide, which gives you roughly a 140" diagonal screen? Also, I'm assuming this is a 16x9 aspect ratio?

Great job! I have followed your video and when I try to flip up the screen the cleat wants to come out. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I'm not sure exactly why that would be happening...mine worked until I put gas shocks to hold it open, then it wanted to lift off of the cleat. I ended up putting some 3" screws into the top part of the cleat that is connect to the screen to keep it in place. You can see this on my complete walkthrough video - I show the screws I ended up putting in. Good luck!

Great work! Might it have been simpler to mount the LEDs on the wall? Just thinking ahead as I’m likely to copy you. I visited Carls website but I don’t see anywhere it says the material is acoustically transparent or an gain ratings.

I'm not sure about the LEDS on the wall, possibly! But you'd have to mount them sideways somehow to get the best effect.... How did you do the black border tape. I have my frame made and its near perfect flat and is perfect square. Gained like 2 levels of woodworking. But I am puzzeled on how to do tape dead on straight as someone who cant draw a straight line. I am aiming for 1in border could live with 2. Need ideas please and asap.

I simply took my tape and ran it flush with the side edge of the screen, then folded whatever reamining length there was to the front-facing side of the screen. Then adjusted my picture size to the available space on the screen. That's how I did it. That way the entire sides are covered in black. If it is too thick for you, you will have to figure out a way to measure and cut or even fold whatever thickness to the back side of the screen possibly to end up with less on the front side, if that makes sense. Good luck! Take your time, and don't pull the black velvet tight, it doesn't stretch and could end up shrinking back, possibly leaving gaps at your seams.

@@TyEichele thanks for reply and not soundinf ungrateful but I was hoping there was a slicker trick than that as I dont want to rely on my 1×3 to have perfect thickness all around. I means is close but there is some tolerance there. Im hoping to get like laser accurate lines. I am thinking I may try masking tape. Would a good painter tape harm the screen you think?

I'm not sure to be honest....could try on some spare material if you have any? Otherwise maybe measure your lines and make some pencil marks to follow, covering up your marks as you go with the black tape? I'm sure there are other videos out there too maybe with some ideas, maybe you've already looked. Good luck!

@@TyEichele yup let you know how I make out. I do know its actually easy to line up two peices of tape. Ie. Lay one down and other on its line. This is done lots in autobody. So thats my plan A if good blue tape can stick and remove np.

Wow. Sir is 13 feet a comfortable viewing distance for 140inch screen. What your opinion. I am planning to build a home theatre . Sir can u plsss mentiom the room dimensions too. Especially the room height....

@@15.emanuelshaju24 Absolutely - check out my walkthrough video as well, it shows and talks about dimensions and all those details. In my opinion, 13' from my screen is perfect. It's a nice immersive picture but you don't have to turn you head to see the whole thing. Your eyes have to move a little bit but it's great and we don't regret it at all. The room is roughly 15' x 15' with a 9' tall ceiling height.

@@jkraft5081 I agree 100%!! In fact, that was one of my strategies for going for a projector and screen setup vs a larger TV. Much easier and cheaper to replace the screen material than a whole TV 😉👍
