I was on a concert of these guys a day after the video was released. And I had the chance to talk to Alea for quite a while he was stressing the importance of reactors. an he spoke very kindly abou you and your channel. 5:30 In their latest podcast episode, Alea said that when they first rehearsed that scene where Tetzel kicks away that enemy and focuses on Alea as his new opponent, Alea immediately thought "what do you want? Money, lands, women, food, drinks? I'll get it for you, lemme just get the hell out of here!" That man is massive. If I remember correctly, they gave him a two-hand-sword that he yields in one hand, because a normal one-hand-sword would have looked like a toothpick in his hands.

not surprised .. they did the same with Hafthor Bjornsson in Game of Thrones. Normal one hand swords just look funny in the hands of those incredible giants

the behind the scenes video is also pretty cool :) they rented a whole LARP village for this and the people in the video are cosplayers and just medieval nerds who like to dress like that also when they cast fire or 'enchant' the sword with flames they really had fire on their hands and weapons, yes they overlayed a little bit of CGI fire but you can also see the real flames there
@Bioshyn2 жыл бұрын
was about to say, looks like they just found a bunch of people who brought their own armor and weapons, the post doc i worked with while writing my masters thesis was a sword fighter, and his wife too, they moved and had to replace the wooden ceiling of the rented property because they made holes in it during sword practice :D

To be fair with the production value: Saltatio Mortis is extremly well connected in the german medival and larp scene. They are also a lot of medival events in historical villages. I think most of the background actors are people from that medival scene, in their own outfits und gear.

I guess many KZbinrs don't react to SaMo because they are only known in Germany or Europe in general, so they react to other (worldwide known) bands because they bring more views. I'm an avid fan of Elder Scrolls Online and I just love the way the song is centered around the love a dad has for his child, it brings this whole epic saga a deeper connection of sorts. I also love the reveal that he is the assassin character we've followed in the game's trailers since idk 2014. No idea where this would be put in the timeline, but I love it non the less. Great reaction as always!
@starsword-c25342 жыл бұрын
A lot of the "I pray to the X" lines I'm pretty sure are referring to various of the aedra and daedra, who are basically the gods of the Elder Scrolls mythos (aedra near universally pro-humanity, daedra pursuing their own interests regardless of what it does to mortals, good or bad). "The hunter" is probably Hircine, the daedric prince of hunting and predators (werewolves end up in his realm of Oblivion as their afterlife), "the Wise One" is probably Hermaeus Mora, daedric prince of forbidden knowledge (the Dragonborn expansion to Skyrim deals heavily with him), and I think "the lady" is Azura, the Queen of Air and Darkness (one of the more generally benevolent daedric princes, she was a patron of the dark elves until the Tribunal of Morrowind betrayed her devout follower and their king Indoril Nerevar to become living gods). ETA: On a rewatch, the "dragon" is probably the aedra Akatosh, the dragon god of time, one of the most important gods of the Imperial religion.

Fun Story about their Live DVD "Provocatio" (2013): It was after their first #1 album in german music charts, when the organiser of the "Mittelalter Phantasie Spectaculum" announced ((without SaMo knowing)), they will celebrate it with a 3 hour gig on his festival, with just a couple of days ahead. Saltatio Mortis said "Challenge accepted" and somehow even manged to hire a crew to record the concert without any time to plan it out. It was one hell of a concert and one oft the best live recordings as well. They also have some songs from Provocatio on their channel ;)

So, in this video, Alea (lead singer) is taking the place of the Breton Hero. The Nord Hero and Altmer* Hero also feature, right after Alea's death. These three Heroes are prominent in the cinematic trailers for each Elder Scrolls Online expansion, and represent the player character from each of the three alliances. The Breton Hero is a ranger, and represents the Daggerfall Covenant (alliance of Bretons [magically proficient and chivalrous humans, think medieval Europe], Redguards [desert-dwellers and skilled swordmasters], and Orcs [pretty standard, although not inherently evil]). The Altmer Hero is a mage, and represents the Aldmeri Dominion (alliance of Altmer [gold-skinned Elves, who are your standard haughty and superior fantasy elves], Bosmer** [smaller Elves who dwell in the forest province of Grahtwood, are very carnivorous, and skilled at woodworking], and Khajiit [a race of feline humanoids who are excellent at sneaking and are often discriminated against because their homeland, Elsweyr, is where the drug Moon Sugar is grown]). The Nord Hero is a heavy warrior, and represents the Ebonheart Pact (alliance of Nords [typical viking-esque warriors], Dunmer*** [grey-skinned Elves who are proficient in magic and revere their ancestors], and Argonians [reptillians who were once enslaved by the Dunmer, masters of guerilla warfare, and their style/architecture is heavily inspired by the Aztecs]). The cinematic trailers always include one or all of the Heroes battling the foe. The trailer for Greymoor (the Skyrim expansion) showed the Nord Hero battling vampires. The trailer for the Summerset expansion centred on the Altmer Hero. And the trailer for the Elsweyr expansion showed the Breton Hero showcasing the new Necromancer class to battle a dragon. *High Elves **Wood Elves ***Dark Elves ("mer" basically means "elf." Orcs are sometimes called Orsimer, there's Maomar (Sea Elves), Aldmer, Chimer, Dwemer, Falmer... the only race of elves without "mer" in their name are the Ancient Elves, who are known as the Ayleid.)

The Bosmer in ESO don't fuck with woodworking though. Especially those native from Valenwood because they follow the Green. Cutting wood is punishable by death over there. They work bone. They are carnivorous because they also don't eat plants. Even their alcohol is fermented meat called Rotmeth. All your other descriptions are pretty spot on but I main a Bosmer (wood elf) and love their entire lore. So I had to nerd out for a bit hahaha.

This was a huge fanservive to the Elder Scrolls community, Alea's character is the "Breton Hero," and the elf and big dude who revived him are the "Altmer Hero" and "Nord Hero." They've been used to represent the player character in all the cinematic trailers for the base game and all of the expansions (and there are a shit ton, they pretty much equal a full length film by this point and people have compiled them all on KZbin, ends up being several hours long. Even if you aren't super into Elder Scrolls, I highly recommend checking them out as they're outstanding).

Well the reason the can have as many people in their videos and the production can be as big as it is, is in alrge parts thanks to the german arp community. THe location is Bogenwald, a completey build fantasy larp village and most of the extras are larpers with their own equipment etc. Doesn't lessen the craftsmanship etc. of their videos, but it explains why they can be as massive as they are, bec. thanks to the community

It also adds a LOT to the feeling that the "good guys" army is not really "an army going into battle", but the people living in that town readying themselves for battle as each one of them can to defend their town from a band of marauders that they know is about to attack it. You wouldn't have had that feeling if every extra was dressed and armed the same with identical material provided by the effects department.

hey Tank glad to see you still feeling the medieval metal/rock department Did you look into "Tanzwut"? For me they are legendary even above In Extremo and Saltatio Mortis, i mean they run 2-4 bag pipes at the same time depending on the songs and its the first and only band live where im looking forward to the last song as they perform their "Hymnus Cerberus" like a ritual For starters you can go with their song "Pack" feat. Saltatio Mortis, "Weiße Nächte" (somewhat older song) or "Die Tanzwut kehrt zurück" from their newest album
@Mofl23282 жыл бұрын
Isn't 2-4 bagpipes pretty normal? SaMo always has Luzi and Elsi on bagpipes and with some songs 4 with Falk and Alea as well. And In Extremo goes up to at least 3 as well for some songs with the default of 2 as well. Generally 2 out of the bagpipes/hurdy gurdy/violins are pretty much the minimum for these bands.

I'm still not sure what to think of the current Saltatio Mortis. It's not that it's bad, it's just a little departure from earlier works. And with the amount of Bands in this Genre (at least here in Germany) it's hard to stand out. It probably also isn't helping that I'm really not a big fan of current Bethesda. Since I skipped their show at MPS Hoppegarten - it was 35°C all day and SaMo played last - I might go to the next Show. The next one I will visit already has a great Lineup with Feuerschwanz, Schandmaul and Saltatio Mortis that I might actually stay at that Stage an not wonder off again.
