If you're going to replace the gloves anyway, wouldn't it be feasible to hold the labia apart using the gloves without the gauze? Also can't the plastic bag be at least partly removed until the end of the catheter? Otherwise a useful video.

Although it is a dummy, it has helped me as i learn by watching. Thank you.

I'm guessing it's because of availability/budgetary constraints that a male catheter instead of a female one was used? In an actual procedure I know that there are many variables which would dictate which catheter is used. :) A nice and clear demonstration - thank you.

I have been in the medical field for 9 years. I have worked on a Caudi elimination team and teaching how to insert Caths. Please tell me.... what is a male catheter?????? Are u referring to a coude? Or the difference in length? Because almost all brands manufacturer a unisex catheter for years and years now with 16inch length. As it is universal. Lengths sizes mostly stopped about 10 years ago, unless ur supplier does happen to use a different lengths.

Never never want to go through that again. I was unconscious under general anesthesia so I couldn't object. It is humiliating and invasiv😖😣😣😣😣😣😣

Same. I had a fusion done on my neck two weeks ago and the last thing I remember was seeing about 10 Drs running around getting ready to do the surgery. They put a catheter in while I was out and it's embarrassing to think about that happening with all of those people around. The worse part was the nurse that removed it. She didn't deflate the balloon all the way when taking it out and I started bleeding and passing blood clots. It felt like she ripped my urethra open. She blamed me for moving. Worst experience of my life. Id rather be put in an adult diaper and just pee myself.

I'm sorry that happened to you. This was my very first surgery and nobody whatsoever told me what to expect. I wouldn't have allowed that damn catheter if I was awake. I had a hernia repair plus gallbladder removal plus appendectomy. I wasn't even aware the surgeon would do all that. I never saw him or the anesthesiologist on the morning of my surgery. I found out about all this when I woke up in recovery and that damn catheter was already in. I had it in me for 2 days afterward. The removal was painless so that was the only good thing about it. I'm modest and I fret about who inserted the catheter. I think I may find out because I contacted the hospital about that and other issues. Let's see what kind of response I'll get (if any). Good luck to you. Take care.❤😊

@@RitaMBuda-tz6bi I'm sorry I'm just seeing your reply. They should 100% let you know what they plan on doing when it comes to putting in the catheter or at least let you know it's a possibility that they may have to use one if the surgery runs longer. A lot of people especially women have trauma when it comes to things being done against their will or with them not knowing. This is embarrassing to admit but ive never actually been to the gynecologist due to trauma and I'm 36! I've been married since I turned 19 and we opted out against having kids. My fear being one reason. I know that's bad but I wish I had the opportunity to prepare myself for them being that...invasive. I would've done it still because my neck pain was that bad but I needed time to come to terms. It sounds dumb but it's just how I am. Im still peeing blood and can't pee fully (sorry TMI) I just got back from my primary Dr and she gave me antibiotics and told me to drink cranberry juice last week. It's been over a month! Something is wrong.

@@RitaMBuda-tz6bi this was my first surgery too! Please keep me updated. I don't think too many folks understand how it makes you feel. They think you're being silly and it seems you understand how I feel. I'm sorry you went through something similar.

I don’t understand. I’m a medical student and I’ve been told we cannot carry out invasive procedures without patient consent. Why have they placed a catheter without your consent? I’m really sorry to hear what you have gone through, I really did expect them to communicate with you on such an important and intimate matter and I am left feeling concerned for you due to the lack of consideration afforded to you.
