I have a border collie corgi mix and i work on a farm with a large herd and usually i have to chase cows around and my dog is a house pet and needs more stimulation so i was trying to find things to teach her as far as herding and this is quite helpful she picks up on commands so quick she is super intelligent thanks

Dude thank you. Just got a dog on the farm and she shows the ability. I've seen good working dogs but I've never learned to train stock dogs. Figured I'd teach her to play hide and seek. But she already calls off and gets down.

I found this video to be really helpful in understanding the basic commands. If possible, do you think you could do a video on how to teach the AWAY TO ME/GO BY commands? Thank you.

Yes, it's very useful to have some basic commands to control your dog. I'm just using 'Come, Go, Stay/No' and body language to communicate to my dog and often we have misunderstandings or mistakes, so trying to not use her help much, but when she's doing right it's a real help (getting chickens into the run or helping to catch escaped bunny or quail without hurting them).

@@joseconde9282 A couple of grands plus you should be trained how to control them (how and what commands to use).

What are the best ways to get your dog to have such a strong focus on you and listen intently?
@stephanietalksdifferent69305 жыл бұрын
I have a blue heelerxstumpy tail cattle dog. He is amazing at listening he is glued to my hip listens to sit stay and lay down when he starts to wander which is very very rare he comes when i call. my only problem is he is completely uninterested in cattle which is upsetting considering we work for a ranch that has 600 head and as much help is the best. I did take him through a herd of heifers and he didn't even look at them his eyes are GLUED on me constantly. If i ride a four wheeler he runs and barks and nips at that. Im just starting to get disappointed and loosing hope do you think he is a dud or is there still a chance. (he is 8 months old we just got him about a month ago never been around cattle.)

At what age do you start each of the commands? Our blue heeler puppy is 9 weeks and has come to me and sit down pretty well. Now we are working on down.

I was taught to use one word commands. Not "get down", just "down". Or "here", or "come" but not "come here". It wastes time and is superfluous.
