Something I wanted to add about your backflips section at the end, is that the backflips are also useful in the way that it lets you pop the ball without losing your positioning, allowing you to react in case the defender saves your flick shot. I know you already know this, just adding it for people that hadnt realized.

So I struggled for such a long time learning to do this. I watched this video and went to freeplay after watching your advanced aerial stuff and practiced both. In the hour I got a lot of aerial stuff, but amazingly due to your tips on starting with no boost and not going max speed. I was able to start dribbling the ball nearly immediately and after the hour I could hold the ball up and even got some flicks down! Something I could only do if I got lucky to get it up. The starting with no air roll was also an incredibly helpful tip. I will continue to follow your regimend for advance aerial control until I can freestyle the obstacle course cleanly. Thank you for the videos and very good insights. I have a lot of time in the game and felt like I was not able to improve at all. I wouldn't spend any time training because I would get very frustrated very quick because nothing seemed to happen, but my training had no aim or plan. I tend to play a lot and I was having a really good time training so I'm going to try to spend as much time as I can. I'd be happy if I could get to diamond.

@arthurpopulaire92167 жыл бұрын
It's what they call the "stilt". Restarting training or scoring a goal (& after replay) the ball goes on a stilt. Test this yourself with the merc. The ball always goes in if you drive straight into it at supersonic (not on a stilt), and also always goes over if the ball is on the stilt. The ball being on a stilt is a great way to get the ball on top if you're having trouble.

Hopefully we'll see more from you, and on a side note, i wouldn't even worry if you feel somebody else has already covered a topic, because chances are you will be able to improve upon what they did with this kind of detail.

A lot of the issues people are having is that dribbling requires very precise input adjustments based on visual recognition of ball position in relation to the car. For console players in particular, I advise looking up input lag in general and learning how to reduce it with your particular tv setup. Small things like turning off Vertical Sync in the Rocket League settings and changing your controller from bluetooth to USB communication in your PS4 device settings have a dramatic effect on input lag. Switching to a PC monitor is best but definitely try to use a TV with Game Mode if possible. Also, for smart TVs, disable the CEC function which basically causes your tv to communicate with HDMI connected devices to make it automatically turn on when a connected device is powered up. As well as disabling any power save functions it might have. TVs 50" and above are particularly bad about input lag so keeping your gaming tv at or below 37" definitely will be better overall. Sorry for the long post but taking these steps literally made all the difference in the world for me. Hope it helps someone.

This was the best tutorial for dribbles imaginable. It was great seeing the variables and their details. I had watched some others and taught myself the flip shots, I still wasn't able to beat any defender though. I would sometimes do a backflip and it would just simply miss the ball. The video explained this, now off to practice! :D

@TCKKR8 жыл бұрын
I don't think you mentioned this (you might have, you're very insightful), but I started thinking differently as to what a pop-up is. Before, it seemed that I was kicking the ball upwards with the force of the back-flip, but today I realized that the car almost strictly acts as a ramp that the ball rides up. Functionally it's very similar to other explanations, but this visualization has really helped my pop-ups.
@TCKKR8 жыл бұрын
Also, your videos are so great that I'm torn between promoting you/spreading the word and keeping all your knowledge to myself.

one of the tricks I learned was to keep the car in the center of the white ring: the white ring indicates where the ball is when you are both on the ground or the air and wall (is an exception because the wall will light where its going to be at anytime). stay within the white ring's center an the ball will stay on top

I like to use the X-Devil for dribbling. It has a very curvy hitbox, but I've found it easier to recover than the Dominus, which has a very flat hitbox. I don't have any idea about how this works. Probably is just how I dribble at least, or it's because of the car. Also, I like how you explain why you should do "this" or do "that". Like how you explained why you shouldn't overuse the gas button, or why you should change your camera settings. It's nice because if we didn't know those explanations, we would be doing what we shouldn't do when dribbling. Like if someone thought changing the camera settings was just for letting you get cool shots, someone wouldn't do it, but it's kind of common sense and someone would notice that the ball is blocking your view.
@Ryan-ww7un5 жыл бұрын
The ball does not pop up in free play the way the video shows. Instead it bumps forward. I think this is because psyonix changed the starting height of the ball in free play since this video's creation. In lieu of this, try this method instead: In free play, drive along side the ball, matching its speed. Gently cut into ball. This will pop it up, allowing you to turn under it. Make sure when you turn you do so gently. The biggest mistake I made when learning this way is I would turn to suddenly and the ball would bounce away from me. When you turn under the ball, use the white circle as a guide, and position the car so it will hit the top of your hitbox. Extra note: the hitboxes in rocket league are angled slightly forward, resulting in the ball naturally rolling forwards. This is why when you with the ball in one spot on top of the car it will roll forwards straight or diagonally, not backward. To fix this periodically edge the ball closer to the back of your hitbox, slowing it down. Hope this helps.

0:37 Folks, forget the dribbling. I messed around in training for a few minutes with these camera settings a few days ago, and just now, I played my first match with them. After 4 years with Lachinio settings, which I chose literally because it was the first "pro" camera setting I ever heard of, so I just assumed it was good -- it's a complete game-changer. With Lachinio, during 1v1 faceoffs, I had to use my left thumb to pull down the right analog stick so I could see if my opponent was gonna stay at the net or not. I'd very quickly and easily get used to losing track of my opponent once I got possession of the ball, and got used to not seeing a whole lot while I had it, going more for precision taps (which, in the wrong direction or field state, could easily lead to a pass to an opponent). With these settings, though, I can see every damn thing within a ridiculous radius. The only blind spot, if you can call it that, is a small area on the other side of the ball from your car, which I debate because it's impossible for anything to get there without you seeing it on the way in. The different angle will take some getting used to, and it might not be advisable for me to also be doing this while switching to bumper boost, but I'm actually noticing that the advantages of the switch are helping me win more than switching to new settings is helping me lose. The difference is that stark. A dedicated boost finger, and eyes that can see where I used to use ears and intuition for. I can already feel the plateau falling away.

The ball will fly up and drop meaning you don't have to do it yourself. The ball is never motionless in a game anyway. @Vance Michael Langer Drive up to the car in a straight line. Don't hit it too hard but don't hit it too soft. Then once you see it pop up in the air, boost towards it while accelerating enough to where you're under the ball to catch it. After that, try to balance it without using boost at first just so you get used to holding it up. Then once you're used to it, let the car roll slightly frontwards of your vehicle and use boost and acceleration to stay under it. For beginners, you just want to try holding it up as much as you can without trying to do it fast at first.
