I've been ordering these lately and they're great. I love integrating these with other game systems as well.

Yeah the mass combat rules are very impersonal in a way, but I think that was the point. I used to use Palladium Fantasy ritual rules for summoning - but I like the Lion and Dragon rules a lot. That is a great thing about the OSR is that all the stuff is a supplement for one another.

Exactly the easy cross compatibility of the OSR awesome.

I played Palladium, Gurps since 69. I like both of the systems very much. I’m 70 it’s hard to find people that will let you play dungeons and dragons or fantasy role-playing games with them. It’s hard to even find a game. It’s not online.

If each player has 2 to 4 henchmen then you easily have a team of 16 to 20 characters with 4 players.

Basic Fantasy has a skill system but it is an optional rule on the web site.

Been wanting to do something like this with the rule sets I have, but haven't yet. I wanna do some one shot adventures rules as written to get a feel for them. I want to see what I like, and what I want to add or change.

I'm interested in how Basic Fantasy would handle some *differently* "B/X compatible games" such as Stars Without Number, or a Mutant/Gamma clone, or a B/X superhero game like *Echo City* or *Vigilante City*. Or Dungeon Crawl Classics modules.

And I should note, I dont have a group or much experience, yet. But knowing ahead of time would make it easy to prepare.

Basic Fantasy would be reasonably compatible. The things with BFRPG that make it different is obviously no race as class like classic BX and ascending AC. Otherwise, I think it would work with many of those games without too much conversion work.

Where do you find Loins and dragons book?

I believe you can get it from Dri-Thru Rpg.

For Mass combat you might want to borrow from the combat rules for a war game called empires at arm's. you could choose how deep you wanted to go and emulating them but it would make a great mechanism for this. basically it depends on the force quality and quantity you have and the defender and attack are both pick a tactic and you resolve the battle in up to three rounds. Adds a lot of drama intention trust me.

I like idea of OSR games, but i can’t stand the idea of playing with the exact same old clunky rules we struggled with in the 1980s. I've rewritten 2e to have ascending AC and converted THAC0 to attack bonuses, thief skills and skill checks to be d20 roll-high mechanics, etc. At the moment, I’m adding some feats to make fighters & thieves more fun & powerful. I’d love to see a video on how to comply with the OGL and prep materials for publishing.

I'm not being facetious here but it sounds like you are trying to turn old school into 5e. Personally I don't find the old rules clunky but it's really a matter of taste. I've said before that I personally like a bit of jank in my game systems. Basic fantasy is a great and simple game I dont find clunky at all though and it has ascending AC (though I've never found attack matrices or THAC0 difficult). Cheers! I've though about an OGL video on just compliance having used it many times now myself But it's just getting to that haha.
