Its all these city folks trying to be country folks. I used to spent my weekend in the river swamps and all i ever took was a castiron pan a jar of lard and a paper sack with flour in it. A 22 riffle and a lighter. No tent,no sleeping bag and for sure no back pack full of parts and pieces. The swamps of Sc is a great place to survive and thrive.

Hey Justin! Knowledge is the best companion to have in the Great Outdoors. It weighs nothing and takes up no space... yet, it can save your Life. Being able to have a fire to warm yourself, your food, or a drink is beyond price. If one concentrates on the basics... then you can't go too far wrong. Promethius would be proud! I have spent many a cold, dark night out in the woods, that was a LOT more enjoyable because of a fire to provide heat, light, and dare I say it? Companionship. Watching the flickering flames dance across the embers... "The Fire Dream"... beats just about anything on TV or the radio, as you get lost in your own thoughts... and your Tipi will be absolutely perfect for this! Well Done! I was raised in the east Texas woods. I am 73 years old, so I guess I do things the old way. My dad and grandfather would kick my butt if I was to ever beat on a knife. I was taught to use the proper tools for the job. I never saw anyone baton a piece of wood with a knife until youtube came along. I have been laughed at by countless youtube movie stars for saying that I never baton a piece of wood with my knife. For convenience, I do carry a small folding saw and sometimes a saw blade rolled up so I can put together a bow saw, should I want to stay out in the woods for a few days. There are times I will paddle the Sabine river and camp out for a couple of weeks, or more. I also carry a tomahawk made by Two Hawks.

Unc, the best way to start a fire is to rub two crickets' legs together. You get a fire AND you get that peaceful, relaxing sound of the outdoors while you do it. The crickets really hate it, though :) :)

Certain areas are different.. down in the Everglades or in a coastal area tinder, kindling and fuel are a little harder to come by. One time out in the desert of west Texas around pecos the truck broke down wintertime in the middle of the night off the main highway and we almost froze to death.. tumbleweeds are like flash paper, good tender but not good for kindling and the only thing to burn was a couple rotten cedar fenceposts and the spare tire from the truck.. 🥶

Good video. May save someone's life one day. After hunting till dark you get back to the truck to a dead battery with no phone signal. Realize you spending the night. That Bic lighter becomes priceless. Especially in this weather.

Yeah I’m glad you said that..I don’t understand why in the world someone has to take a knife and hit it with something to cut a piece of wood..if they would just look right next to em there’s stuff everywhere to use to make a fire..all I see is people just ruining their stuff for absolutely no reason at all!!one day ima order one of your knife’s..but I promise ya it won’t be ruined by hitting it to death..that’s just insane to me!!Thank ya for posting this Justin!!God Bless Ya Brother!!

I get tickled at the folks who get on camera with a big load of sawed firewood that they bring "camping" that weighs 400 pounds, then beat the devil out of the back of their "bush-crafting" knife, and their reasoning is, an axe is "too heavy" to carry camping :) That Barkin' Spider at 17:29 skeered me for a minute!

You can't beat dead cedar branches with the needles still on for tinder and kindling combined. Maybe hard to find in a swamp, though.

That looks like a CZ, be sure to get you a 17 caliber cleaning rod, it has a match chamber. Its tight and difficult to get a 22 caliber rod in the chamber not impossible but you don't wanna mess it up.

I argue with my husband about this all the time! He watches way too many YT videos on batonning. Me, myself…I’m not beating my knife up like that. I see absolutely no real point in it. Unless you are reviewing a knife & wanting to showcase the ruggedness of that knife, there is no real need for it.
