This kind of fishing brings me back to my childhood days when I was on the creek below my house in the back pasture. I was only 10 years old, now days you can’t your kids do that because the way the world is. Keep your eyes on Jesus and keep your hook wet!

When Dad was out of work I would occasionally bring home a stringer full of blue gills. Mom would scale and gut them and poach them in tomato sauce ( she was Italian) with raisins and garlic.. They were good eating, but you had to watch the bones. Happy memories.

Nothing like sleeping out. Had an uncle who lived in a small house but he had about 9 kids older than me. His water came from a deep well and the water was sweeter than soda pop and colder than winter when he pulled it up with a bucket to give me a drink on a hot July day. He made his own axe handles from the white wood of a hickory with a draw knife and broken glass and the only way you could tell they weren't store bought was the chop mark he left at the end of the handle. Theyd bend double and not break. Hot summer, the women slept in the house but the men and boys slept outside under the stars, their daybeds pulled up under every tree to keep the dew off. In a time before air conditioning became common, while everybody sweltered in the house, before morning theyd be pulling covers against a morning chill. Sometimes we"d go visiting early and catch'em all in bed. I always envied their night's quarters amongst the crickets, whippooreills, owls, and moon.
