Great little video my man. I haven’t indulged into the Digital yet but I plan to soon and had no idea about the real mode. That is fantastic. Please tell me the name of the Pc software you use with the Carrera main controller Thank you.
@dw5555 Жыл бұрын
The software was written by Bruce Yingling many years ago. It is apparently still available. I think most people prefer to use the Carrera App just because everyone has a phone. Here is most of the info on it. You might have to copy and paste. You will need a special computer cable to hook into the Carrera track. beautiful track. thanks for sharing. what pieces did you use to extend length if pit lane?
@dw55554 жыл бұрын
Hi Pedro, thanks for the comment. As far as the single lane pieces , all I did was use full size pieces and cut them in half right down the centerline of the track. Kinda makes it nice because you end up with 2 straight pieces out of 1. I used a table saw with a panel cutting blade but you can use a jigsaw or a utility knife. The track cuts really easy.

Great video. I'm fairly new to this; 55 year old guy who hasn't played with slot cars since he was 10 and was pleasantly surprised to find out they have added so many features to the digital toy to make racing more challenging and competitive. Just bought a Carrera set for Christmas and am planning expansion. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind taking the time to answer them. Does the Carrera track turn gray over time? I've seen several layout videos where the track looks like yours and just wondered if you did something to change it or if just happens. Does one pit lane work well for you? It seems like many layouts have two and I assume it's to avoid lining up in pit row or someone from blocking another driver from getting past the refueling sensor. Thanks. Beautiful and well organized layout you have. One more. I see you use both the individual Carrera car monitors and a computer screen. Is it fun having both?
@dw55553 жыл бұрын
Thanks Todd. It's always good to know someone is getting something out of these videos. Anything other than the black track is painted. I painted mine grey about 5 yrs ago strictly for aesthetic purposes. I wanted it to look more like concrete. I then misted it with black spray paint to dirty it up so it looks aged. Some people claim the the paint also increases grip but I didn't notice a difference. Depending on how many racers you have one pit lane is sufficient. The second pit lane you are seeing is for the use of the Pace car. I personally don't know anyone that uses that function. Nice idea but not really used. As far as driver displays, most people use the Carrera app these days. Turns your smart phone into a race monitor. I can't comment on that because I'm still the old school computer guy. No phone app here.

@@dw5555 Thanks for the quick reply and the useful info. The driver displays do look great lined up against the wall and elevated above the track. Looks like great fun and I can't wait for my orders to come in so I can improve my layout and get people over for a first race.

Like your version of pit entry. What special track pieces does it take besides the normal right lane change?
@dw55554 жыл бұрын
That's all it is. As you can see I just painted the opposite lane to make it less noticeable. If I had one it would have been better to use the chicane track pieces that way there is only the one lane. Then I could have also use 2nd half of the chicane as the exit and make it less sharp also.

Hello dw5555, It was an eye-opener for me that you explained that the pit-lanechange blocks, the pace car and the autonomous cars. I also like a smoother entrance for the pit lane, so my question is: Does the chicane lanechange also blocks the autonomous and pace cars? My dealer told me to disconnect a wire in de lanechange, but if so, wich one? I hope you have an answer 🤞. Greetings, and thanks in advance, William (The Netherlands). By the way, can you show me the layout from your track? On camera I saw only a segment...
@dw55553 жыл бұрын
William, Thank you for your comment. The chicane does NOT block ghost cars from entering. It isn't just a matter of disconnecting a wire. You have to swap the computer board from the pit lane adapter to the chicane. It's the pit lane adapter that tells the ghost cars not to enter. The pace car will enter the pits. That is it's function. That's why you have to have a separate pace car pit area. Once the pace car function is activated it is designed to hit every lane changer until it finds the fuel sensor which turns it off.
@w.vangrinsven31323 жыл бұрын
Hello dw 5555, Thanx for your quick respons! So, recapitulating: With pit lane adapter you mean the (short) lane switch, I presume... Carrera has no pitlane switch to the left, so the pacecar shall always enter the pit lane (I have a dubble pitlane with lanechanger and 2 pits (fuel sensors)) that I use for refueling during the race. The pacecar then will block one fuelstation! ( At the moment, I use a left-chicane-switch for the pacecar, without refuelsensor.) I want to keep the pacecar separated from the refueling pitlane. Is it a solution that I make a 3rd pitlane, separated from the dubble refuel pitlane, on another place of the track, that can be used for the pacecar??? And does the pacecar recognizes that this particular pitlane is for the pacecar? So, according to you, I need an extra refuel piece... When I turn off the pacecar during a race, does it takes the 1st pitlane that he encounters? If so, I have to switch off the pacecar on a specific piece of the track, just before his parking place.... This can be a renewed feature for Carrera Stadlbauer... I'm sorry that I ask so many qustions, but I can't find anything about this on the internet. (Maybe I don't search well enough...😊) I'm eager for your answer. Greetings, William, The Netherlands.
@dw55553 жыл бұрын
@@w.vangrinsven3132 Sorry William I just noticed your question and it's probably too late but I'll answer anyway. The short answer to your question is you need to add a separate (3rd) pit lane for the pace car. If the pace car enters the normal pitlane it will stop and tie up your current pitlane. That's not the only problem, the last lane changer BEFORE the your current pit will have to be a right to left lane changer. The way the pace car takes that lane changer and moves in the lane opposite the pit lane you want to fuel in. Then add your pace car pit further down the track. Remember the pace car will hit every lane changer until it finds the pit lane. Your one of the few people I know that use this function because it does involve adding another pit lane.
@gersonfer4 жыл бұрын
Great track and great info! Thanks. What did you do to avoid the ghost cars to enter in the pit lane ?
@dw55554 жыл бұрын
I didn't do anything. I rarely run with ghost cars so it's a non issue for me. If you run with a pace/ghost car and want to use an L/C as a pit lane entrance you just need to take out the computer board in the pit lane entrance and swap it with the board in the lane changer. Then it will function as a pit lane. That being said when I do run ghost cars it brings a level of excitement having to keep track of the ghost cars and get out of the pits before they come around. In all fairness my track is large enough to do that.

Great help for a newcomer. Question, Do you need a pit stop lane for each racer, or can all racers use the same one?
@dw55554 жыл бұрын
Hi Martha. The one pit lane covers all the racers. The only issue is unless you expand the pit lane only one person can use it at a time. In my video you can see how long my pit lane is so I can accommodate 6 racers at a time but not everyone has that kind of room.

@@dw5555 Can you extend it with regular track? Thanks for your help!
@dw55554 жыл бұрын
@@marthacovington6603 Sorry Martha I just noticed this. My bad..Since they are single lane pieces you can buy them, only the straights though as they don't make the curved sections. (Expensive though) Or you can make your own. It's easy to do. You just have to cut the track in 1/2 down the centerline. You can use a utility knife (Sharp blade) or a jig saw or a table saw. Just take your time. My entire pit lane is made up of cut pieces.
@dw55554 жыл бұрын
IF you have the room you can use straight pieces uncut. You will just have an extra lane. Unpowered though. Great place for car storage. Our cars doesn’t slow down enough when out of fuel. You don’t really lose much time, if any, by running out of fuel compared to having fuel. The car is blinking and slowing down slightly, but I guess the track doesn’t have long enough straights for it to make any significant impact. Is there any way to change the max speed when out of fuel?
@dw5555 Жыл бұрын
Tommy, you are at the mercy of the CU as to the speed. Whatever it is it is. However, if you are running races and using the position tower your car WILL NOT count laps if you are out of fuel. Kinda make you stop and get fuel. I'm not sure if it's in the Carrera App to let you adjust speed.

@@dw5555Yeah we couldn’t find anywhere to change it in the app, but we didn’t understand that the laps were not counting because we were out of fuel. That makes a lot of sense now! Thanks for a quick reply and for explaining!☺️

@dw55554 жыл бұрын
Hi Tuga, thanks for the comment. At least someone is still getting something out of it. By default the pitlane counts laps so if it's next to the finish line they will still count. HOWEVER, it is my understanding that if the racing is that close and they cross at the exact same time whoever is on the main track will win. That is because the CU reads the main line 1st and then the pitlane. You can turn the lap counting feature off so it doesn't count laps if it's not at the start/finish like on my track. Dave
