If you just lock a target in BVR EO, Vertical Scan, Boresight or HMS (all these modes use EO) you will always just see the "A", even if it is a friendly. The thermal sensor is passive, so it does not know if the target is friendly or not. To identify the target you just need to toggle radar real quick while the target is locked in EO. If the "A" then turns to "AFR" during the time the radar/IFF is on it is friendly, otherwise it is not. If you just toggle the radar quickly, the enemy won't get a radar warning.

@@OverkillSimulations You really need to plan these videos more. Even if it takes longer. It's less videos to make, better content.

A little flimsy at the beginning but great video overall. I would add, learn the F-15 radar first so you understand the reference.

Thank for these videos, as always, very useful! At 4:40, I think what you are showing is the steering bar, not the deviation indicator which is the horizontal indicator at the top. The steering bar is also called the flight director is other aircraft. I'm not sure the DCS manual is very accurate on that (the MiG-21bis manual and module have the same problem with navigation indicators, they're not interpreting correctly the real indicators). The directional part of the ADI is apparently only used for approach and landing, always relative to the runway. Perhaps they extended the functionality to waypoints in the game (or perhaps some variant of the MiG-29 had other versions of this ADI, though I doubt it). In conclusion, it's probably not behaving like the real device anyway :) Maybe someone who knows the DCS module and the real equivalent better than me can confirm that.

Yeah, I hear ya. It's really frustrating that the documentation is so unreliable on a number of topics. That's why I'm so grateful for you guys in the community. Your input as a group is extremely valuable. The information that I use to make the "correction" videos is information coming from you guys that I have tested a confirmed. Which, is fine. I love the collaboration, I just the information from the developer was solid.

I think that nofebak is correct, though in the sim it has never worked that way. The course deviation indicator across the top and glide slope deviation indicator down the left have always been tied to the current selected waypoint.

I took a closer look and, it turns out, that the ADI course and glidepath deviation indicators do indeed work all the way down to the runway on Russian ILS equipped runways--Mozdok for instance--when in LANDING nav mode. The ADI glideslope deviation indicator, however, does not mirror either the HUD cues or the HSI ILS bars. Rather it brings you in at a lower height that seems to more closely mirror the book values (200-250 meters over the outer marker, etc). You can make a perfectly safe landing using the ADI only. It's a different story on non-Russian ILS equipped runways. In those cases, you can use it only until the ILS would kick in (around 7.5 km from the runway). At that point, the ADI stops responding and the glide slope deviation bar drops out. From then on you need to rely either on the sight picture through the HUD or the flight director circle depending on your preference.

thank you, very helpful. What happens if you override launch authorization while in TWS2? Will u get still get T1 and T2 pop up at the bottom?
