I like to watch her mouth as she speaks Russian. I want to learn Russian but am daunted by the complexities of the way it’s pronounced. My ancestors were Russian and came to the US to escape persecution as they were royalists.

The Russian passport name from Bourne Identity is what happens if you type "Kiniaev Foma" on a Russian standard keyboard. The writer must have thought it was a phonetic keyboard, but it wasn't!

Thank you. If the daughter's father's name is Pavel is the patronymic Pavelovna or Pavelyevna please? What decides whether it is? Is it determined by the ending being a consonant or a vowel?

Hello! In case of Pavel it will be Pavlovna Pavel is an exception. You may read the rules in this article (it’s in Russian ) statusname.ru/articles/lichnye-imena/pravila-obrazovaniya-i-napisan/?ysclid=l7yeicdkwq984918936

I never thought to look closely at Bourne's passport, but I didn't know Russian then...Daria, you should apply in Hollywood as a consultant about Russian history, names and day-to-day life. Who knows, you might get picked to be in the next Matt Damon movie as его подруга )))

Thank you for your lessons. Can you recommend any link to study the declension of names? I have heard about some strange rules, for example first name always decline but last name decline only if it is masculine, or another even strangest rule - names decline as nouns, except in instrumental case, where they decline as adjectives. Is this really true? Once again, thank you very much.
@RussianwithDariaMikhay2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Try this site surnameonline.ru/ or this one tamali.net/instrument/text/sklonenie-fio/ Here you will find information about declension in Russian. You may copy the text and use translator.

What if the family name ends with an -o? I've seen this name on a male and female, for example, Shirko. From my understanding -o is a neuter form of a noun. So would this name not change if there was a marriage, or would it end as -ova? Thanks for help anyone. Edit: Did some more research on this subject and found out this -o ending is more common in Ukrainian. Not sure how their gender cases work but I figured I'd leave the comment for anyone curious.
@ИжикПыжик-к6п5 жыл бұрын
It doesn't change. There are a lot of surnames that don't actually change with gender, and there are some other surnames that change different: for example there's a surname "orbakaite" and if I'm not mistaken, in this case "kaite" is a female ending
