How old is it? it could have become blocked over time and may need changing. Check all the connections first to see if there is a problem. If all that's ok see what the TDS of any water that comes direct from the membrane is. If its over 90% of the water going in it will probably need changing.

Hi i will soon be buying a new40/40 membrane but I'm wondering if i have the right One ? Currently i have a low pressure membrane , i just had my tap pressure measured and its 18psi also my water has a tds of aprox 350 -370 . Based on this info is it a high or low pressure membrane i need ? Also i have 1000L ibc tank , i have just cleaned it so i had the chance to see exactly how long it takes to fill from start to finish . . . it took 33 hours is that aprox what you would expect ? i do have it set on exactly 60% waste 40% pure water. so that works out 30L per /hr. . At the moment its not a huge problem as I'm using 300L per /day however should i wish to increase my usage this will be problematic. I spoke with window cleaning warehouse and they said if you use a booster pump it may run to fast for your resin to cope with and as a result your water quality may suffer. Any advice on these points i would be grateful Regards Rob
@squeakycleandave1
@squeakycleandave1 Жыл бұрын
Even with the lowest pressure membranes you need around 80-90 psi for them to work correctly so at 18 psi, you are way under what is required so I would highly recommend getting a booster pump. I don't know why WCW said your DI wouldn't cope. If you have a very small DI it may be worth getting a bigger one but I would recommend getting a booster pump first and trying that.

@squeakycleandave1

Hi Geoff Thanks for the great question. The waste water takes all the impurities out with it so it’s a higher ppm coming out then the original water going in. It is possible to reuse it and filter it again but the more often it goes through the more impure it will become so putting more strain on the filters and resin so I would recommend not doing it if you don’t have to👍

I just recently fitted a water softener in my house. It has two resin tanks, so the system is always providing soft water through one of the tanks whilst the other is regenerating the resin. This remove the limescale (calcium and magnesium) so you don’t get the water stains around the sink and in the bathroom. Would this water be good enough to use with a WFP to clean windows?
@squeakycleandave1
@squeakycleandave1 2 жыл бұрын
You would have to test it as it depends on the impurity of the water going in but for most I would have thought probably not.
@jonseddon7067

I’ve heard the softeners don’t just take out calcium, they switch it for sodium in the process. Check this out, but I thought the same as you until I researched it. I presume the DI then has to filter out sodium instead of calcium so you’re sort of robbing Peter to pay Paul. I would like a definitive answer on this myself though!

I wanted to wash my own property and do my own faciers and gutterings finding a pole and brush isnt hard the biggest issue is the pure water part I was thinking maybe a Gardiner slx pole or ova 8 with a Gardiner back pack but I'm struggling to find a cheap way of producing pure water I've seen some 5 part RO systems online for around 100 quid after watching your video not sure that will be good enough plus I will only use the set up around 4 times a year but in the long run it will pay for its self seing as a I have a large home with lots of white guttering and faciers sofits doing the windows aswell Do the filters deteriorate as soon as they are first used having water passed through them ? As I said I'd only wanna make a batch of pure water every 2 or 3 mouths Not every day or so like you guys so I'm I'm woundering are the filters deteriorate by how much water has passed through them ? Or by the time passed from first used ?
@squeakycleandave1
@squeakycleandave1 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think that they deteriote but the DI resin might. I may be wrong. To clean your gutters and fascia you wouldn't need pure water. You could just attach your pole to the garden tap and use that. If you put a little washing-up liquid on your brush first you would find it a lot easier. As you don't want to don't need loads of pure water you would probably be best buying it. There are companies such as Spotless Water which sell it very cheaply. Just do a web search for pure water for sale in your area

I thought window cleaners either used RO filter systems OR DI tank Didnt think you needed both systems to get pure water Most window cleaners on you tube use just the RO system not the DI as they say the DI is more expensive in the long run keep changing the bags Were the RO filters last longer so works out more economical
@squeakycleandave1

Any RO system is only guaranteed to get 95% of impurities out of the water so if your water goes in at 400ppm then it will come out at 20ppm which is too high for window cleaning so the DI is normally put in after the RO to polish the water removing the remaining impurities get the water down to 0ppm Maybe most of the KZbinrs don't mention this but it is industry standard.
