Literally just been setting up a used bullet too, great tip on tightening the bridge, had no idea it affected the tuning of other strings when bending. Having exactly the same problem of "dead" sounds when plucking hard on high e around the 10th fret, tinkering with setup but maybe that's just as good as it gets, time to save up for a better one.

If you're willing to put in the work you can also get yourself a kit to file down the high frets that are causing the buzzing. If you like the tone of the guitar you have right how it would he a good investment

just hammer the high string down a little bit. use a rubber hammer and be careful, checking after every other hammering
If your camera is on "face detection" it will try to focus on your face. If it autofocuses in the middle, putting your hand behind the object will make a "bigger target" to focus on. Lenses have a minimum focusing distance (often written on the lens) and trying to focus closer just won't work. Hope it helps :)

This is so interesting. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just bought a Fender Player Plus Tele and the setup is pretty terrible from the factory. It’s totally playable but I feel like it has a lot more to offer. The problem I am having with it is that the output of the high E string above the 12th fret is much lower than the rest of the strings. Also, even though it is well intonated, the B string still sounds a little out of tune to me. I could get it set up by a pro but I’d really rather learn how to do it myself.

That guitar sells new for $150, tops, with a starter kit-amp, strap, picks-but if I knew I was buying it from Tomo, then I know it’s in better than new shape, so I would probably pay $300 even if it was otherwise all original. Of course for that much I would make sure he signs it! I have that same guitar, and once I fixed it up, I’m pretty happy with it. I haven’t changed any parts yet, but I’m about to change the nut to a Graph Tech one.

Appraisal is $1,000.00 for the guitar plus $9,000.00 cause Tomo Fujita did the work, tested it, played it on a video and that now brings the worth to its market value of $10,000.00. Worth every penny, Tomo. : )

I cleaned my used Squier Bullet Stratocaster with naphtha-aka lighter fluid-then orange oiled the fretboard, which was super dry so I did it again a week later. Polished the frets and basically everything else that is metal on the guitar. Then of course all the set up stuff. I put on Earnie Ball Skinny Top, Heavy Bottom strings on, which range from 10 to 52, so the tremolo bridge bent way up. That was much more difficult to adjust than I thought it would be, but I got it. I’ve only been playing a year, at that point only seven months, but I’m a good bicycle mechanic and was also a ski mechanic. I haven’t opened the guitar yet, but maybe I’ll try that next, just to clean the internal parts. I have exactly that same problem with my Squier Bullet Stratocaster, the buzzing in a certain area of the neck, almost no sustain there. I tried adjusting the action, but it didn’t make a difference, and I was about to try adjusting the neck relief but couldn’t find my hex wrench for that. I didn’t think about that it might be because the pickup magnet is too close to the string, making the guitar sound like it’s out of tune with itself; I’ll try that first. That’s caused by the magnets in the pickups having too much pull on the string, so it’s literally pulling the string out of tone. When you play the string, it physically moves like a jump rope, and if the magnet is too close it causes it to go too far at the bottom of that jump rope action, resulting in it sounding like crap. Especially if you changed to heavier strings, then the pickups need to be lowered to avoid this problem because you have more metal for the magnets to pull on. Same as with fancy, expensive bicycles, it’s best to learn how to do everything myself because it’s cheaper and only I know exactly how I want things, and I can make adjustments anytime instead of taking it to a shop. Question: On that guitar, which is the same as mine, the tuning machines are crap. They’re not even adjustable. On top of that, the holes are 8mm rather than the Fender standard 10mm. I’ve been wanting to replace parts with genuine Fender parts, including the tuning machines so I can maintain that special Fender sound, but some of those Fender parts just don’t fit. Do you think it’s worth it to, for example, ream out those holes in the headstock so the Fender tuning machines will fit, or should I just buy another brand that does fit?
@TomoFujitaMusic4 жыл бұрын
You can tighten the tuning pegs. Be patient and do your best!

@@TomoFujitaMusic :Six months later, my Squier Bullet is gorgeous, plays gorgeous, sounds gorgeous. I changed the string trees, nut, and bridge saddles to GraphTech and installed Fender locking tuners. This guitar can take a beating and never goes out of tune now, whereas with the stock parts it would never stay in tune. This week I’m upgrading the electronics to an Obsidian Wire Blender. Doing these upgrades bit by bit has been totally worth it, and of course I learned a lot in the process.

@@TomoFujitaMusic Recently I bought a newer version of this guitar. I didn't have to do anything to it. It was set up properly, rolled edges on the fretboard, decent nut (artificial bone of some sort). I play it the most. It's good, but it's not a miracle, because most of those Bullets are good. They can pump them out at amazing base quality and silly prices nowadays. Anyway, if I can give a humble suggestion, as long as you can stand it, use cheap guitars in your educational videos. Many beginners think they can't sound good without big bucks, while all it takes is skill in playing and setup. And also, it's the ultimate flex toward those who think they already sound good. Because your tone is pristine. Pulling it off with cheap guitar and amp? Even better!

Is steel wool okay for polishing frets? Metal pieces won't get into the pickups if I cover it, right?
Strings are loose for shipping to avoid warping the neck.

HIi Tomo is there any way i can get rid of the buzzing on my cheap strat

What type of buzz?

If it's interference (walk around and hold it next to other electricals to see if it gets louder), then look into copper shielding tape for the scratchplate and cavities. I did this recently: web.lavoco.com/affinity-restoration/

Hi Tomo - Thank you for yet another great video! I understand your point about how a cheap guitar might lead to bad habits if you are fighting with dead areas and other problems. On the other hand, I feel there is a point where expensive guitars have a high price because of a particular boutique brand name or vintage. Can you recommend any instruments or makers that are in the sweet spot - - guitars that are reasonably affordable (say less than $1,000) and will also be high enough quality for improving touch and style? Is it about getting lucky with the right used instrument? Or are there new guitars that hit that sweet spot? Thank you!!!! (PS - I'm really enjoying working through your Guitar Wisdom lessons!!)

So all means, just better to use better, best guitar that possible to obtain. Guitar will last forever so why not to pay top $$$ for best result! Work hard and get better guitar for life! I am going to buy my first electric guitar! I want to “live” and grow more passion with the 1st electric guitar that i’m going to buy, do you have any recommendation? I own a GS-mini and D-28, and i just really need a well-built overall for tone/dynamic sound, and i understand everything you taught in the video, i really hate “pitchy” sound with no dynamics, My priority is i want to experience the feel of electric guitars that are played before 20s, because i really love all music in 4-90s, So what are your recommendations? Thank you very much!
@TomoFujitaMusic4 жыл бұрын
I cannot give you exactly what to do but you can watch other videos with cheap Squier guitars. Think about how long you are going to use your first guitar? All depends. Nice to own better guitar for better result for sure. Cheap guitar has no dynamics. Just so okay with correct size, correct pitches etc. But no tone! I think you need better that those since you own better quality acoustic guitar. I would say... at least Fender SRV signature guitar which is really great! (for that price range) That guitar made John Mayer to next level!! If he was playing cheaper guitar..(?)
