Well you could use shared detection instead of having each plane having detection like a carrier or a large spy plane

I have a dedicated AWAC (sometimes multiple) attached to every single one of my ships above a certain size. They're dirt cheap, and I find that small, evasive, weaponless crafts tend not to get focused on as much as the cruiser jetting around so they're generally safe from fire

Fun fact regarding your second plane: In the late 1940s, the Emerson company developed a nose turret for the Grumman F9F Panther jet fighter. It carried four .50 cal machine guns, could rotate fully around, and the guns could elevate from pointing straight ahead to pointing backwards at a 30 degree angle - so everything up to a 60-degree half-angle cone to the rear was covered by it.

There was a British WW2 fighter plane who’s name eludes me, 2 man, the pilot had a couple of Vickers synchronised to the prop as usual, but there was also an observer who had a pintle mounted Lewis gun normally only seen on bombers - *or two if he was feeling strong* Don’t know what is the more weird - the armament (only fighter I can think of with a separate gunner), or the fact the strength of the armament was dependant on how strong the gunner felt that day.. ‘Sorry captain, had a bit too much ale last night, I’m only gonna take one Lewis up today so don’t let any Fokkers get behind us...’

Random pedantic moment, the Germans did invent an aircraft mounted recoiless rifle (Sondergerät SG 500 Jagdfaust) for anti-aircraft use in WW2.

From what I remember, they also were looking into a 14 inch recoilless gun for use against British capital ships because they were struggling with the concept of air dropped torpedos.

Question for a future tutorial: How do you make a wing-based aircraft with both a high top speed and a low minimum speed? ie: It can go very fast *and* very slow, without losing control in either case. I've had to use thrustercraft to do this so far.
@BorderWise122 жыл бұрын
Pretty tall order... I think that's also really hard to do in real life? I'd say use ACBs controlling maximum thrust based on certain triggers are your best bet, with sufficient wing blocks (or custom control surfaces) to keep it airborne at low speeds and sufficient pitch-altitude control to stop it zooming off into space at top speed. You could even use ACBs/Breadboard/LUA to switch between different AIs with low speed and high speed maneuver routines. I hope at least some of that is helpful!

Why so much detection? Wouldnt just one forward facing camera in one wing be enough? If you lose your wing you have bigger things to worry about than the loss of detection..... If you need more detection, just use an IVT and share the detection of a 'mother ship' (or plane), shaving 1000 res worth of processor cards (plus the costs of the expensive rangefinders) off a 8000 res plane is a BIG saving....
@BorderWise122 жыл бұрын
- One camera isn't accurate enough. You'll miss a lot of shots that way. - It's a playstyle thing. Motherships are fiddly (and arguably less useful than just one large craft), and I prefer using planes that can operate entirely on their own.
