I love how simple you explain the process. I bought this kit about 10 years ago and never use it. I have a 7 year old that loves doing crafts. Guess what are we doing tomorrow during our spring break? We will put spring flower seed in it to mail it to family and friend to welcome the spring of 2013. Thanks for the inpiration!!!

I guess there's only a few things I do differently. I don't press the paper so firmly because in its very wet stages it's easy to distort the thickness and shape. Also I never drag the press bar across the couch as the couch can wrinkle and transfer an unwanted impression. But I do make larger sheets. I LOVED the way you made a simple presentation that anyone can follow! I would use it to teach my grand kids if I used that kit. THANK YOU for adding to the knowledge of our crafters, but especially our youth! (Oh, thanks also for reminding the young especially to keep the work space clean and orderly. It helps their concentration levels and teaches great work ethic!)

An interesting video would be how you made the paper WITHOUT the kit. Using the basic household items that you mentioned would be a very sought after video, especially for people who DON'T have a paper making kit. That would rock:))) MCC;)

I'm poorly attempting making paper myself, I add too much paper in and now it's too think; I add too little and it rips easily. I was wondering if there is a certain ratio or exact amount to mix, or is there some way to flatten the paper. Also I'm making it to be in a hand bound journal, would you suggest adding liquid starch?

I'm still researching into paper making. I would like to start on it but I can't find any answers to how the quality and strength(in particular) of the paper will turn out once it is finished. Will it be able to be reused through machines like printers and faxes again?

Hi Amy, great video, really. Thanks for sharing! I have a question you might answer maybe: when I made recycled paper, the paper came out really nice colour wise, but it was quite hard, almost like cardboard...and it couldn't depend on the paper I used as I made it twice using different scraps of normal paper, but both times it came out like cardboard and not easy to bend. Would you know what it can depend on? And how to get a softer paper? Thanks in advance! :)
@AmerAmyMN11 жыл бұрын
Most of the paper I have made is stiff. Try experimenting with thinner paper. It's hard to get a solid piece of paper that is thin. You could also "work" the stiff paper by rolling it one direction, then the other. Thanks.
@ElenaAnnunziata10 жыл бұрын
Amer Amy Thanks Amy, I will try to experiment with thinner paper and the rolling technique as you advised! Elena

Major parts of kit: Mesh: vinyl roll screen repair kit-easily cut with scissors..needs to be rust-proof. Frame: plastic or non-rusting picture frames or any other squares..other shapes are okay too~ Epoxy, Rubber cement or other glue or stapler to make an attachment to the frame A riser: some way to keep the paper frame off of the work surface to let more water out by pressing (open mesh)..if you have a second larger piece of mesh ready, you can put several sheets of paper on for final drying

You could probably use anything that water will drain through. I have used a plastic ice cream bucket cover with the edge cut off and an old piece of window screen. I'll have to think about what else would work. Let me know what you use and what works. Thanks for watching.
@AmerAmyMN12 жыл бұрын
I think I got the $1 Shams at Farm and Fleet but I think you can get knock offs at the dollar store. As long as it absorbs water and doesn't leave any residue or bits on your paper, it will work. even newspaper. I found screens for sale on the internet by searching for "paper making screen". Maybe a large art supply store would have them. I live in a very small town and get that kind of stuff off the internet. Thanks for watching. Amy

I would have to try using felt; not sure felt is absorbent enough; if the color does come off the felt to the paper, it might look cool. I'd have to try. Let me know if you try it and how it works. I'll remember paper making for my next giveaway. Thanks for watching. Amy

@AmerAmyMN8 жыл бұрын
you can add glitter at any time in the process depending on where you want it, if you want it in the paper fiber or sitting on top, or both. thanks Amy
@AmerAmyMN13 жыл бұрын
I usually start with one sheet of about 8 1/2 x 11 and add a napkin or tissue for color. If you want thicker paper you would use more, thinner, use less. Thin paper is hard to make, thicker paper just takes longer to dry. You could also reuse paper that you make for other paper. Thanks for watching and have a great day.

The "couch" paper is a special absorbent paper. You can find it at craft stores and ebay. You can use anything that is absorbent, the "couch" sheets absorb a lot, don't leave lint or other materials on your paper and can be dried and used over and over. I like using cut up "Shamwow" towels . thanks for watching.

for more even pulp try blending it more in the blender. Then it is a matter of experimenting with the amount of pulp. Stir it around to get it even. Pull up the screen slowly and evenly as possible and if it isn't even enough, put it back in the water, stir it around and pull it back out of the water (you can add or remove pulp at this time too); until it is to your liking. You can also iron your paper to dry it flat or to flatten it after it dries. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

You will need to experiment to get the paper the way you want it. I either dry the paper between books (which takes a long time but it works) or I use an iron. After I lay them out to dry for a while, I finish drying and flatten them with the iron. The paper starch may work great; with using the iron, you might get a great flat surface on the paper. If you do it, let me know if it makes any difference. I will try that next time I make paper. Thanks for watching. Amy
