We are doing this and unit studies (for fun ) like twice a week after our main studies are over. Thank you for all you do. You are always helpful

Thank you for this simple, clear video! We are getting ready to homeschool for the first time for 9th grade. It's overwhelming.

You can do it! Simplicity is the key to being enjoyable and sustainable.

My boys really complain because they are always reading classic fiction on their own and so the extra required reading is a chore for them. They are also not retaining the math facts and we have been at it for 4 months. You remind me why I chose RC though, so we will perservere!

Maybe this video will help? kzbin.info/www/bejne/l56YXph3m6iSsK8 I also do like the Saxon 2 and 3 worksheets only for daily math drill worksheets and gives them a little more to do then just flashcards. As far as the reading, a chapter or two a day from the RC book really isn't bad. Once they know complaining doesn't get them anything, they should stop :) Don't give up, the best is yet to come after the adjustment period where they *will* try you lol. Like Steven Hake says "Your will power has to be stronger than their won't power" you got this!

hi Karen, I would really like to purchase the math answer note book instead of printing it. Are you selling them.

My favorite essay curriculum is actually IEW (institute for Excellence in Writing) I wish my teachers would have taught me his method so it is what we use for essay writing.

We love IEW too! And Fix it! Grammer. So easy, and enjoyable!

A friend & I have been trying to get to figure out the best way to do it together. We both have 5 kids. Any ideas? We just didn't realize how much work it was going to be.

I have been watching your content and I think that this method is right for us. Is the lifetime bundle worth the cost? I have 7 children ages 1-10 and are new to homeschooling. I’m also a single parent, a full time college student and will have a full time job after I complete my schooling. So it’s important for me for my children to be as independent as possible in their learning.

I would say yes for the amount of children and the little free time you have, that it would be a great investment.

Do you have a video on a day with your 15 year old. What are you using for Science now that she is in high school? Thanks!
@ourhouse2 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s a short. She is still getting science through books and things we do like subscription boxes, board games etc.

We are new to RC. Many people in the fb group say start every child at the beginning of the list so they start vocab at the beginning. My son is 10 and reading well. Would you place him at the beginning? And that brings me to vocab…do you treat vocab as a separate subject, or must they master the vocab for a book before moving to the next book, even if they’ve finished reading the book that they haven’t finished vocab for?
@ourhouse2 жыл бұрын
Yes I would start at the beginning too. If they are not finished with vocab by the time they move on to the next book, they can add the words not mastered yet to the new stack. Ideally you want them to line up but it doesn’t have to be perfect and they should from time to time review older master cards so they don’t forget.

Sounds great but my soon to be 9th grader loves science and hates math. He'd be mad if I told him no science until you finish all Saxon books. Also, we love history, how does a child learn a timeline of world history with just the list of books? Thinking of using this rc for high school but idk. Someone told me about it just today.
@ourhouse2 жыл бұрын
There is Science in the books, plus RC online has additional Science monographs. Most science is just facts memorized, but actual Science (Physics, Chemistry) needs the math language first. If RC is not for you, that's ok.

I'm not a RC-purist, but have used it as inspiration to put together my own plan. I have a chronological history list (many books taken from the AmblesideOnline & RC lists. To me it makes so much more sense to study history chronologically. I remember feeling completely lost when in high school we jumped right into the middle of the Medieval times with no explanation of what happened before), a literature & poetry list (taking from RC, AmblesideOnline, and the "1000 Good Books List"), and a science list (AO's selections as well). I ask them to read from the history and science books once a week at their own pace (usually about a chapter a week, or more depending on length and interest) and the rest of the reading time is spent in the literature and poetry list at their own pace, in the spirit of RC. Hope this helps! :)

You can add whatever books you want. My daughter loves history. So I have her read a history textbook during our reading time and sometimes I'll have her write about what she read for her writing that day. RC is very flexible. The point is to keep it simple and encourage independent learning.
