Seriously, man. I bought my first 7 string about 6 months ago, and at first I was pretty intimidated to pick the damn thing up, but after playing it and getting comfortable, I fucking love it! There's so much you can do with it, especially with the extra low end. Like the man said, you just have to play it and get comfortable with it.. It's all cake from there.. Given that you've been playing a 6 string and you know what you're doing with it.

I love a seven string guitar I actually have an Ibanez seven string. You can play pretty much the same stuff as you can play on the six string but I’ll go ahead and give you a little tip if you’re playing something on the E or the A string just muffle the B string. Because you’ll find that if you don’t you could accidentally hit the B string while you’re playing and it could mess you up. But if you muffle the B string. You can Strom chords all day long and actually hit the B string in is not gonna go through on the amp. You can get a seven string pretty reasonable nowadays if I were you I would get one with a fixed bridge though the floating Tamola in a seven string model is very difficult tune. A fixed bridge is a breeze to tune.
@aaronblank23182 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreyburney6161 Thank you for the tips! I will definitely keep this stuff in mind. I am now trying to decide between a 7 string and a Baritone guitar. Any thoughts on that? Btw, i always get fixed bridge/string through body guitars.

@@drewperrot I used to do that, but after awhile, I realized how versatile an extra string could be. I would jump from an artist that uses E standard to an artist that uses drop A. Also, if you pair a 7 string with a capo, you can basically be able to play ANY reasonable tuning.

Great explanation! One correction, you were right when you explained that you can play 5ths on the low B and E just the same as you would play them on the E and A strings on a six string guitar. During your explanation you said that the B and E and the E and A are a 5th apart when actually they are a perfect 4th apart. Yes you can play 5ths on those strings but those strings are a perfect 4th apart. Anyone interested in learning more about this just look up musical intervals. Thanks for your video, you explained it really well.

Love the Ibanez UV777. Always wanted one. What a great explanation on the 7, man. I used this same logic years ago going from 6 to 7, and 7 to 8 string. Because the 7th String is another B String, these are fantastic extended range Guitars to start with. Fun fact the Low B Stirng on the 7 String Guitar is fantastic because just like the 5 String Bass, it facilitates transposition so you can match the ranges of other Musicians & Singers, especially on Church Gigs.

These Extended Range Guitars are actually the easiest to learn on because the 7th String is another B String. Fun fact the Low B String on the 7 String Guitar (and the 5 String Bass too) makes it easier to play what's written on the page because alot of the Music is going to be transposed to fit the ranges of other Instruments & singers especailly on Church Gigs. Extended range Guitars with up to 10 Strings (going all the way down to Low G# nearly 2 Octaves below a Standard Guitar) are a fantastic axe for Church Gigs cause you've gotta find the right key.

7 string guitars also have a somewhat different scale length than 6 strings, but that's not something you're going to notice while playing. Excellent video by the way, I'm thinking about getting a seven string myself and this video is really helpful. There really aren't enough resources for seven string guitarists, especially for other genres than metal. I'll definitely be playing metal but I'd like to see how it works with blues, punk rock, classic rock, ambient, folk, etc, y'know, experiment a little.
@craven19276 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the guitar. The 7 string that I have like the Universe in the video is a 25.5" scale which is the same scale as the standard 6 string Ibanez RG guitars. They do make a longer scale 7 string in the RGD series, and a guitar like the Les Paul has a shorter scale, so it really depends on which specific guitar you're looking at.

@Shallex " I don't see how this is possible". I have to agree. I don't see how someone could possibly play the instrument for that long and not be able to name "ANY" of the notes. You would almost have to be making a conscious effort to not learn anything or have some kind of extreme learning disability. When I first read his post I thought: Come on... Seriously? I can understand not getting into advanced theory like scales and modes or not being able to name some of the extended chords you run into for example. However anyone who's played enough over a 20 year period to become "good-great" should end up picking up the basics without even making an effort to. It's like saying I've played guitar for 20 years but I don't know what a power cord is. It just doesn't sound credible. I mean the guys literally on KZbin watching a guitar lessons so...
