We called it Jam skating since the early 80s. We would compete in speed skating and during the lunch break we would have a “Jam Session” , so we called it jam skate. On Friday’s and Saturday’s, we had a total of 4 Jam skate sessions and would have 1 break dancing contest in the middle while others kept jam skating on the outside. Jam music would last 5-8 minutes per song, two songs per jam session. You will still find FAST jam skaters skate for full 10-15 minutes continuously without missing a beat.Indiana/Fort Wayne

This is perhaps my favorite movement. When younger i tended to bend more at the knees for a lower stance adding a "pump" on the front leg as I transitioned the other leg to the back. Now as I have grown older it resembles more along the lines you are presenting in this video! I have been quad skating since 70's and the move was popular even then.

Let them know,to pick up those feet,and place them into position,and if they do that,their feet should fall into position on beat.So you lift right to the back,place it down,life the front,place it down,so the timing is up foot1,down foot 1,up front2,down foot 2.Then as you get advanced it's like Plant foot 1,pivot1,plant position 2,pivot back to original position,etc,etc..

Cool video. Just getting back into jam skating after a pretty big hiatus. Had a set of Hard Candies in the mid-late 90s that are now long gone. Trying to educate myself on jam skates (we always called them speed skates back then), but, low cut boot with no/short heel. Do you have any recommendations on where to start? Would building up my own boot be a better option? No real budget constraints but I would like something durable, maybe a bit more modern, if skates have any improvement since the 90s.

Trucking, bouncing, boogie skating, and boogie bounce. I've never heard it called Jam Skating since that refers to a specific style of skating. Which is complex in itself since it encompasses several other styles and disciplines such as; Rhythm, JB, Breakdance, Gymnastics, Artistic, and more to accomplish the various move sets. Call it whatever you want, but I would be a little thrown off if someone told me they jam skate and end up only going on the floor and boogie skate the whole session. Nothing wrong with that, but specifying your style helps a lot.
@DeezSkates Жыл бұрын
I hear you! At the time we called it that, the cumulative style of jam skating today wasn’t really around. Rhythm and dance styles, sure.. but jam skating as it exists today wasn’t a thing yet.
