Nice video, I am a hobbyist when it comes to leather and after seeing your radio strap video I was curious to see your setup. I have a chunk of granite for my punches and a cheap cutting board and a block of hickory for my holes/rounding punches. I just bought a cutting mat from amazon to make fabric masks with, and it's now been added to my leather use as well and it works great. I guess one difference in what I use to cut straight lines is that I use a 60mm hd rotary cutter up against a straight edge, it makes a really clean edge quickly (I haven't tried it on anything above 8-9oz). Those clicker dies are interesting though, I'm a die maker apprentice currently and that would be a fun project to make. One of my next projects is hopefully a double bit axe sheath, I would be curious to see how you would tackle that if you're up for it. Other than that, I'll be attempting a radio strap for our crane control box so I don't have to share a shop strap with everyone. You have a new subscriber, I'm sure this channel will take off with the effort you're putting in. Good luck.

Thanks for watching Tim. I’ve tried that rotary blade. Doesn’t work well with thicker stuff. I haven’t messed with sheaths yet. Maybe sometime in the future. Thanks again for watching

What size stamps do you use?
@SofieldLeather Жыл бұрын
I currently use the 3/4. More space for the suspenders. Plus less painting 😜

been combing through your videos trying to find where you mentioned it but I cant seem to find it again...what size same brown studs are you using?? could of swore you said they were 1/4" in a video and cant find it again. but all im seeing on weaver is MM sizes and on buckle guy theyre weird sizes and not screw backed so id rather not get those anyways. if i was to purchase my pipin punch from buckle guy is it the 3/16" (small) or the 1/4" (large)? trying to purchase everything I need to finally follow through with my strap and holster blue print purchase.

It’s under the firefighter leather hardware video. But it’s the 7mm. They stopped making the 1/4 in. The 7mm is what I use now. 👍

@@SofieldLeather thanks alot for the quick reply...*ahem* while i have you 🤣.. thoughts on using "Newbury leather, Crazy horse" trying to save a little by using a cheaper leather 160$ a side opposed to 200something for the same nice quality leather you use.
@SofieldLeather Жыл бұрын
Never tried those either. I’m sure it’ll look sharp. Don’t know about the stamping and painting it though. Worth a shot
