If this is the type of work you want. On Another video, a guy was making stuff with only 3 tools for 15 years.. so don’t just go buying stuff until you need it..

I've honestly been considering learning how to work with leather but more videos I have looked at got me confused as hell. U explain everything so well and clear. I've been itching to make a leather belt and later make some art in it. Just had no idea how or what to use. Thank you lots. Gonna try to get into leather offically now. Ya gave me some confidence

My boyfriend and I kind of just jumped right in. He got a beginner leather working kit for Christmas last year, and he decided he wanted to make a flashlight holder out of leather so he watched some KZbin videos, and googled everything he could, and made it! and then I became interested so he ended up buying a bigger tool kit from Amazon so we had more of the supplies we needed and started playing around! I chose a "big" project and made my mom a very plain black leather bag with no lining but hey, it's a bag! 👜 But we use leather scrap pieces to test patterns and cuts and tools to see how they work and how much pressure you need to put behind each tool, etc. Craft stores around you will most likely have some leather supplies, and as crap as some of the scrap leather in the variety bags are, it's worth it to get it and start making small test projects.

I was gifted a oooold leather working tool kit from one of my step dad’s uncles about a decade ago and didn’t know what to do with most of it. I knew I wanted to get into leatherwork eventually but at the time I was in a big ceramics hyperfixation. Before I moved states I found a local leather craftsman and gave him the dyes and misc tools I didn’t know anything about, but I kept the decorating tools (?) because I knew I’d use them for something. They’re Craftool from Colorado, I have 13 dif designs and I’m so glad I kept them. My first experience with leather was recently, I made myself leather stays for the renaissance faire and used a sewing stitch-marking wheel to make some decorative patterns since I didn’t have time to really learn how to use the tools I kept. I made the stays with absolutely no leather-working experience but I’m smart, I knew the weight was heavy enough to hold the pressure of lacing, I knew I could only really cut once, and they came out great. Now a year later it’s RenFaire season again and it just occurred to me that it’s the perfect time to really go ham with my decorating my stays, so here I am. That leaf pattern is what got me, that shit is beautiful. This video has been heavily informative, I appreciate you and your efforts. Edit: I’m googling all the serial #s on each tool and most of them are considered vintage, like some were only made in the 60s/70s. I already felt super lucky that I was gifted such a great set, but even more-so now. I wish I had kept the entire tool box he gave me, I knew how stupid it was at the time to give them away but I had to prioritize space and parse down my growing collecting of art/hobby supplies when I moved.

I started making things from leather for six months now. It’s for brilliant for mental health. I come across this fantastic video because I want to learn to put patterns on my projects I make from knife, axe, scissors sheath. I’m not into leather work to make money I just love doing it, helps the mind and anxiety. ❤ I got a cheap set of stamping tools off Amazon. (Not recommended) it’s a reason they were cheap only had them a month or two and stamp shafts are all bent. Only decent thing in the kit was the swivel tool. So wish I could afford to buy the kit sold here. Looks very good quality. I will have to save ❤❤❤ good video. I’m going to watch more of your videos and subscribe now.

I dont know the brand of those stamping tools are but I really like the chamfer on the striking end. I chuck up my BK tools in a cheap lathe and face them and apply a chamfer as it greatly reduces the time it takes to find the tool in the shop after striking it lol

I’ve been painting for 20+ years and I decided to take a shot at tooling leather to see if any of my painting skillset can transfer to a new medium. This video is exactly what I was looking for to figure out what tools to start with so thank you for the info and demonstrations 🤌🤌🤌

Fantastic work, Sir 💯 I wonder how I can sell if I successfully replicate what you have done. Are the beautifully tooled leather pieces meant for wallet, bags?..
@tinoyb92944 ай бұрын
The squares are usually just practice pieces, but perhaps you could sell them as a set of coasters for drinks on a table after they have been given a waterproof finish.
