@tokiohotel0795 This is Sanbon Kumite according to the SKIF syllabus. Certain different Shotokan schools sometimes do all head attacks with age-uke or all body with soto-uke. Kanazawa-sensei's system is as I have presented in this video. You should probably check with your instructor as to his or her specific requirements for your grading. Thanks for your question.

as mentioned u may want to check with your intructor, as it does have variations. the last gedan barai also can be performed stepping back and to the side 45 degress followed by gyaku zuki. note: when the defender steps back the front foot should not move in any way!! IE: wiggle around. twist. or shiffel in any way before they step back to defend. hope this helps.

My thought exactly. I learned this with the last step into a shiko dachi by both uke and tori, and also as shown here. Since I now teach Goju Ryu I also have higher ranks do this in sanchin dachi with modifications.

Why does the Sempai (?) use his front leg first? (He takes a step back, and then attacks.)

IMHO the SKIF have nailed it was their version of sanbon kumite. Schools that practice sanbon as 5 step with 2 moves removed have wasted an opportunity to try something different. But that's just my opinion. Maybe removing 2 moves from 5 step has all kinds of training benefits that I'm just not seeing?

Really useful - I recently moved to SKIF - at my old association we didn't use Sanbon Kumite but trained using a different set of basics for this level. This vid is gong to help me a great deal.

Is this definitely Sanbon Kumite? I'm doing shotokan karate and my orange belt grading. Is it the same?

When the assistant steps back with front leg before he attacks the instructor, this is not as it should be. he should not adjust the front foot in any way.

Useless and therefore a superfluous exercise.

Your basic is bad. Fix your basic first before you demonstrate
