Basic Paw Target with Clicker Training

The presence of the yellow target is the cue while learning. The verbal cue or hand signal is not given until the dog has started to generalize the behavior. I use 'paw' once I start using it with the small dog.

It depends what you want to do with the paw touch. You can add distance. You can change surfaces. Change environments. Add distractions. I use it as a way to teach other behavior cues at a distance (as in go paw, then sit). Check out my Treibball videos for this. You can use it to send a dog around behind another object (as in Treibball). I use 'touch' for only nose touches (to hand, to sticks, to objects etc).
